Expensive Eskom solar rules could be illegal

We have a 5kW inverter and 2x5kWh batteries. We use gas for cooking and water heating. After changing all the light bulbs to LEDs, security lights are also LED. February was very wet and overcast - we used 76kWh from the grid. So far this month we've used 14kWh.

How much solar?

Trying to deal with cloudy days

If not doing generator

I would focus harder on more panels rather than more batteries

If you want to cover that last few % going off grid

Edit :if you have enougb battery to go overnight with ease

However, people with systems that have over 100kW of capacity must only be registered with Nersa. Those with capacities under 100kW — which is likely to include most, if not all, residential systems — do not need to register with Nersa.

Oh dear, so this is a thorn in their side. The only home users with 100kW generation capacity would be vast Hollywood mansions with P Diddy baby oil factories in the basement.

Guess they'll just have to make that point of connection fee equal to or more than the cost of the average well-off household's consumption.

“Grid-connected machines change the power flow on the Eskom network,”

Spoken like the true experts.
