Don't get a Vivo 1.6, go through a broker, if you have to get higher excess for now to lower premium until you've got a history.
I was looking at a few other options for cars (i20, rio), although I feel like you get 'more car' for the same amount of money with a Polo Vivo. Unfortunately with that comes the risk.
In any case, I've contacted two brokers, lets see what they can come up with for me.

So this is my situation
I am 25 years old
I haven't had car insurance before
The car will be used for business use as well
The car I'm insuring is a VW 1.6 Polo Vivo
This seems to be the worst combination of details for car insurance, and as you can imagine, I am getting raped on premiums.
So far I've had quotes from Outsurance for R3000, Discovery for R2600, and R3500 through a broker who uses Santam. Discovery quoted an excess of R3500, the others should be similar.
In any case, does anyone have any ideas (I don't know if you allowed to insure under someone elses name) or perhaps a preferred insurer I should contact to get a better premium.
Still need to try a few, MiWay, Budget and the like. Also having a rethink if I should get the Polo Vivo. For the amounts quoted I can get a spare car on finance :erm:
You really don't with a Polo Vivo, you get a stripped down version of an older car.
Wrong.
Thats a pretty bad combo.
The worst combination is actually 19 year old with a black GTI. The premiums are higher than the repayments.
Key word, "Regular Driver" - Perfectly legal and allowed
Sure, if you don't mention that you are the regular driver and they maybe check access records at your office park for example then you are in trouble. But if you state you are the regular driver, then no issue, only a difference in premium perhaps.
Don't worry, it will come down after 5 years comprehensive with no claims. We've all been there.
