Expensive SSD

Digicape asked us less than R4k for an upgrade to a 240Gb Crucial SSD and RAM ...

did you try recovery mode? i think it's cmd + r... You can access Disk Utility from there

order the ssd from any computer store for your model mac. go to youtube and check how easy it is to install.
done myn not too longer. cost me R1900

I did the RAM and SSD upgrade on my previous upgrade. It's very simple to do. If you can show me where exactly to order a 128GB SSD that works on a 2013 MacBook Air for R1900, then i'll order one immediately.

That was for a standard SSD. The 2013 and newer MacBooks use a custom SSD that is only available from Apple or second hand.

It doesn't respond to any of those inputs. Recovery mode, reset SMC, reset PRM, verbose mode, single user mode, etc nothing works. Just a chime sound with the display's backlight on.

create a recovery disk from another mac. boot from it and do the install over wifi /lan

I think you don't understand: the laptop doesn't respond to any inputs. Also the SSD is confirmed not working. A WiFi recovery is pointless since it can't install to a non-working drive.

Here, send this back to them:

Love it!

Look, the exchange rate is not helping matters, but Core is still bending you over.

You'll have to buy the funky screwdriver too, and having opened a fair few Mac laptops in my time, I'd recommend gettin ifixit's other tools too -the plastic spudger in particular is very useful.

I have the tools already. It uses a pentalobe screwdriver for the outside and a tiny torx for the inside. Installation should take about 5 minutes since it's just the screws and clicking the SSD in/out.
I'll wait for the laptop to be returned to me and i'll remove the SSD and check if it then boots to an external drive. If it does, then i'll import an SSD. If it doesn't, then Core are full of **** and i'll have to make another plan since it means that it's not an SSD failure and most probably the logic board that's faulty.

Bought myself this 500GB kit for my macbook pro retina, R7000 on takealot.

Installation was easy. Macbook air option also available.

That's also for the previous model. Apple, for whatever stupid reason, decided to use custom SSD's on the mid-2014 MacBook Airs. Since then, all of their MacBooks use custom SSD's that no one else makes.

To my knowledge these SSDs arent anything special... I have been through forums where guys replace there SSDs with these: http://www.takealot.com/transcend-240gb-jetdrive-725-ssd-sata3-mlc/PLID38678259

Personally using a 2013' rMBP 13' 256GB and want to upgrade sometime soon to 512GB.

You dont possibly have time machine backup. If so then process wouldnt be much of a pain.

As mentioned earlier, the earlier MacBooks used those type of SSD's but the newer models use a custom SSD. That link you provide mentions the exact models lower down on the page which shows that my model is indeed incompatible.

I may have an air SSD from a 2011 in one of my Mac Pro's.

Will check tomorrow for you.
I usually re-use them when I upgrade them, as I use the proprietary -> sata adaptors.. (apple used to use a mildly modified m-sata prior to them going pci-e)

If not, can order one for you (will be a darn sight cheaper than core).
Your model number is an A1369 / A1370 ?

Another thing you should check - the Air has a recall on the Toshiba SSD's
If its faulty, they should replace for free under the replacement warranty. Check Apple's site for details.

https://www.apple.com/support/macbookair-flashdrive/

I was hit by that no less than 3 times before they gave me a newer machine..

If yours is a 2012-2013 model, its probably the issue, and you can tell Core to go f. themselves, and replace it for free under Apples recall.
