In April this year I had a wheelbearing replaced.

A while back I noticed a noise coming from the same front wheel and later the other wheel also starts making a noise.

I take it back to the same workshop and today, when picking up my car I get an invoice for the replacement of both wheelbearings.

When I query it, I get told the workshop does not make the bearings and can only guarantee workmanship.

My mechanical knowledge is meager so I want to know:
1. Is it possible for the wheelbearing to wear out in such a short time?
2. If something is causing this to happen, should the workshop not have picked this up?
3.Where can I complaint (other than the forum)as I had to pay in cash to get my car from these people?

It's tough one as you cant prove they did not replace the bearing or they used kuk parts. At the same time they should honour their workmanship and if they did indeed replace the bearing & it failed they should sort it out with the supplier. You should not have to pay for the same job twice, that's bs!

Get a 2nd opinion.

Wheel bearings do not wear out that quickly. This sounds like either shoddy workmanship, or they charged you for work they did not do initially.

If they had replaced the bearings initially, I would assume that the bearings had at LEAST a 6 month warranty on them. Hell even their workmanship should have a 6 month warranty.

Ask them if their supplier at least will replace the defective bearing free. That is the minimum you should get.
Are they rmi accredited? You can complain there if not happy.

Another question is why the bearings are packing up.

Has your car been in an accident that you know of? If it's a very high miler, then it's probably OK, but if the car has done a lowish mileage, bearings should not be packing up.

Finally, insist on decent replacement bearings, like Timken or SKF - you probably have some cheap Chinese rubbish, and they will just keep on collapsing on you.

So basically they dont offer warranty on wheel bearings? What kuk is that.

Name of workshop please.

Only a Brand dealer workshop will guarantee their job and parts.

I don't think bearings fall into that category.

Could be a cheap or dud bearing.

I put bearings in a chimney the other they, they lasted till i made a huge fire.

The bearing place told me bearing work up till 110 degrees, then the grease goes.
If your wheels get to hot, then that might also cause a problem.
