Expired license disc since Covid started

Greetings, advice would be appreciated.
I have my late mom's car with EC registration here in Pretoria. The winding of her estate has been dragging and the license disc long expired and now we want to take the car back home, my sister is prepared to come and get it and drive it back home.
How can we do this within SA law and not get tickets on the road, etc.?
 
Keep a copy of both the logbook and death certificate in the car. When stopped, show it to them and explain “the lawyers” are busy transferring the car and so you cant renew the disc. Lie that you stood in the queue and got sent away.

Situation is too high IQ for the average copper to properly comprehend so IMO they tend to wave you away with a smile you will mistake for them being polite.
 
If you intend to eventually use /sell it in EC, then why not just pay the penalties and renew the licence disk so you can take it back with out worries since EC is very far what are the chances of not being stopped by Traffic police along the way? unless if you find buying cooldrinks an easier option then your sister can take it.
 
Pay your licencing up to date, the usual fine is about 10% per annum. I had this on a car a few years ago where I was quite a few years in arrears and wanted to scrap the car. I had to pay the licencing up to date before they scrapped it.

Or you'll get a fine and have extra admin contesting it.
 
I renewed my dad's license disk after he passed away. Registered him on eNatis, paid and they delivered a few days later. We then transferred the car to my name.
 
Remove the expired disk from the car. Go to a car dealership and buy a temporary permit. Put the permit in the back window and you can then safely drive to the EC.

Contest it?!

Here in Durban we just throw it out of the window. Or turn the wipers on if it's a parking ticket.

I can't tell you about the number of people who thank me regularly for "sorting their fines out"

Except those tickets serve as a summons so unless you pay them or appear in court on the day they will issue a warrant for your arrest.

LMAO. Stop the FUD. How can a parking ticket be a summons if it didn't have my name on it? Don't be ridiculous. A first year law student who got into uni due to inflated matric marks will know this.

I used to pay fines until one day someone pointed out that it's the same people in the metro admin who are supposed to read and bill water meters, who are supposed to send the fines. So you see what's the implication here right? It made clear sense to me.

And so my standard MO is to tear the posted ones (non summons), toss the others, never had an issue in over a decade.

We don't have AARTO here. The owner is not liable, the driver is. No proof it was I who parked there. Never seen a single summons, nor posted fines (for parking, speeding cams yes) also we don't have number plate scanners here. Went through many a roadblock. 100s in fact. Licence not expired, drivers not expired, and off you go!


I'm not encouraging anyone to do this. My original post was in jest (although true for me).

Feel free to fk around and find out when you finally land up in the wrong roadblock and suddenly you are being arrested.

You can safely ignore fines that are posted like speeding fines but anything left on your vehicle or handed to you by a cop serves as a summons and hence you either pay or appear in court, failing which they issue an arrest warrant for contempt of court. They are entitled to assume the owner is the driver but if that is not the case the owner is responsible for notifying them of that fact and to supply the info of the actual driver.

I just realised I did actually get a summons once....tore that too. Years and years ago.

Had to do a police clearance 3 months back and an employer criminal check last week (AFIS). Both returned "no illicit activity". Actual cop friend (SAPS not metro) said that's the best possible result...

Moral of the story, its the same admin clowns doing your water bills who are supposed to be capturing these. If you believe that they would actually do their work rather than polish their nails you must be from another country. Or province.

I do the same.never paid a fine
