I wouldn't say that I've played many FPS games in my life but most, if not all, contain those red exploding barrels here and there. The earliest example I can think of is Medal of Honour: Allied Assault, which was probably the first FPS I played, and it had quite a few. I'm currently playing Bad Company and they are strewn accross the whole map. What I want to know is where did it start? Which game was the first to have those barrels?

Doom or maybe the first Duke Nukem games?

The old toppies would probably tune you a game on there commandor 64 or something.

It was most certainly Doom. What was the first game to have barrels shooting up like rockets?

Does anybody remember the name of that Doom mod tool where you could create your own weapons? Think it was dehacked or something like that. I remember creating a RPG that fired barrels.

Thanks for the replies guys. Wow I didn't know that they've been around for THAT long!

Only thing is that when you shoot a regular round into a barrel filled with petrol/explosive gas, chances are that the content will just escape without a big boom. Too much mythbusters for me I guess.

Ye, I know its just a game.
