Express Uncapped Accounts - Max out on 384

With theses accounts, if you are on a 384 line it may just be more worth your while to get the 512 kbps uncapped account.
Reason being -> On the 384 line with the 384 uncapped account the best you could do is get maybe 50 GB in a month (with the thresholds and all that) so making it about R20 per GB.

If you take the 512 package on a 384 line though, ok you pay R370 pm more; but you could pull just under 90 GB with this setup. Working out to just over R15 per GB. How ?! Well, there is a 30 GB threshold which must be accumulated over 10 days. So, download 2.99 GB every day (On a 384 line, this is almost maxing out !) that way you never reach the threshold, always have full speed.

Of course this is only for people really looking for large usage or rather low price per GB :)
EDIT: And for people who can find downloads to stay at full speed 24/7 ;)

Calculations were based on descriptions found on WebAfrica's site. OpenWeb also has these accounts, their descriptions however differ from WebAfrica's :confused: could just be me though ....
 
For the an extra R100 or so, you can have an IS Business package which is 512k, unlimited/uncapped with 5 static IP address. The only thing is that you would have to buy the IS Cisco router which is about R1500.
 
Are you calculating this right? According to the email I received from OpenWeb the monthly threshold is 30GB divided into three 10 day windows. That makes 10GB, i.e. 1GB per day

Can anyone confirm which is the correct description (OpenWeb or WebAfrica), as this will potentially determine whether I keep my uncapped account?

It is divided into 10 day rolling windows.

Correct me if I am wrong.

With the current 384 "uncapped" package your monthly threshold is 15GB divided into 3 10 days periods of 5 GB each, and we pay R999 for this.

At the same time it is possible to get 2 SAIx accounts for R490 per moth each is 10GB. Webafrica
OR
A IS 7GB account with 23 Local GB's for R490 Webafrica
OR
A IS 7GB account ( no extra local ) for R450. Openweb

Sooo
either a 15GB account for R999
or
2x10GB ( SAIX ) = 20GB for R980
2x7GB(23GB) ( IS ) = 14GB ( 46GB ) for R980
2x7GB (IS ) = 14GB for R900

I think I may be seriously considering changing ( AGAIN !! ) ...
 
From the documents we have seen, you will initially have 15Gb on the 384k, 30Gb on the 512k and 60Gb on the 1024k if you reach this within the 10 days then you connection will slow down.
 
My calculations were according to definitions I obtained from WebAfrica's page. Perhaps I have misunderstood them :confused: I see that OpenWeb has different definitions. If I have misunderstood WebAfrica to do my calculations can someone please correct me :o

Threshold
The service is allocated over a 10 day rolling window. If this threshold is exceeded, the rate of the connection will be limited to half the account speed.

The threshold is 15,30 and 60 GB for the 384,512 and 1024 accounts respectively. I understood this as in any 10-day period of a month if you exceed the threshold you will be penalized. So if you use just under one tenth of the threshold every day you should be alright...

TheLoot, you are correct. I have asked IS for formal documents that describe the threshold uncapped, and will publish them on our web site.
 
As I understand it, you get 15Gb (384) per month and 5Gb per 10 days.
So if you exceed 15Gb at any time of the month, you speed gets halfed till next month.

If you exceed 5Gb (in your 10 day slot) you get halfed until day 1 of your next 10 day slot. If you are under the 5Gb usage for that (next) 10 day slot (and your 15Gb for the month) you get full speed until you breach one of these.

So if you download 12Gb in the first 3 days and just do light browsing, you should be on halfspeed till your 3rd rolling window.

That's how i understand it?
