having collecting allot of icc gear by now, i noticed they don't have any expertise on it,only expertise i have is from my icc 10 wep.
I see most tanks still use there toc gear for expertise, and i will most probably need my 4 set bonus ,so was thinking to buy chest from badges and using legs that will give me decent amount.

so was wondering if any other tanks also have low expertise with new gear or it is just me?

and another thing was checking out the best tank there is[kungen] and hes got no expertise ,so was wondering if it is not so big problem anymore, like it was before.

No expertise is a HUGE problem.

That tank... btw... hes not the best.
Hes literally being carried by his healers.

Getting parried is no friggin joke in a raid.
If your attacks if parried, the bosses next melee swing is hasted, and it stacks up.

Ive seen 50k hp+ stamstacked tanks get instagibbed in a LOT of fights.

If you want to be a GOOD tank, expertise 26+, hit ~8%, dodge+parry ~50%+, Armor as much as possible.

DO NOT STAMSTACK FFS!

18 Stam on shield is NOT A GOOD DAMN ENCHANT!
Titanium Plating is far better.

On the topic of shields... Warriors and Paladins have shields for a reason, dont overlook block as a valuable stat.

Kungen ? which guild ? EU or US. All the tanks in my guild have expertise. Being parried by the boss is still a bad thing, imo.

>_>

Kungen is like the superman for little kiddies. Seriously , i really thought the Kungen fanboys have died already.

He is the main tank for Ensidia involved in a few (scandalous ;p) world firsts.

Sorry but this is just plain wrong. Blizzard have stated on numerous occasions that parry haste is turned off on all bosses where this would be a problem, aka hard hitting raid bosses. If you are still looking at Exp as a mitigation stat then you are still living in TBC, Exp is solely a threat stat in all the places it matters. So if your threat is good enough then there is no real reason to get more exp. Hit is always good though, since you don't want to be missing specials and more hit means less chance of your taunts missing.

Yes armor is probably the top tanking stat at the moment but since you can't gem for armour and there is still TONS of unavoidable raid damage in raids, stacking stam will always be an option.

Please stop talking out of your ass. If a 50k+ 'stam' tank is getting "instagibbed" then a 45k 'armor' tank will also be getting instagibbed, unless you telling me his armour is going to give him an extra 10% dmg reduction. As for the suggestion of regarding block as valuable, there are only two places where this is true, tanking trash/heroics, and tanking adds on H Anub. Any other situation you will get laughed at for taking block over just about any other stat. Losing 2k HP or 3% avoidance is just not worth picking up an extra 500 block when bosses are hitting you for 15-20k a pop. Even as a threat stat block is lackluster due to how both pally and warrior 'shield slams' have been capped out, which is fairly trivial to hit in raid gear with raid buffs.

I'm no Kungen fanboy but suggesting the MT of one of the best guilds in the world is being carried just reeks of jealousy.

elitest jerks people also just stack stam all the way,and they work our gear, stats etc the all day.

don't think i ever seen any tank that don't use 18stam on shield lol

Just remember some bosses have parryhaste removed ,thought they removed some in icc because of the gear don't have much expertise. I know bosses like patchwerk don't have have parry haste.

I think i just fell inlove with stam,if i see stam gear i just go mad and want it ,but dindt make me a crap tank, im still the guy in the guild who mt most of the fights and pretty easy done aswell.

I agree with most of your post although no one said he was carried.

I have a lot of respect for him and he is a good player. His twilight boys is what gets to me.

I got the same problem WAAAAAY over hitcap but low on expertise. It's really annoying. Hoping the incoming 3.3.2 strength ring alleviates some of this. And no, I'm not about to gem or chant for expertise. Even at well below the cap, gemming Str gives the best return on investment. Obv im talking from a DPS pov here :P

Point to be made:

Even the stamstacked idiot in our guild has a block value just short of 2k.

2000 dmg mitigated, around 30% of the time... beats your ludicrous statement that block is useless.

I would never tell a tank to go gemming for it.
But ive seen too many warriors foregoing crucial talents like Critical Block, Shield Specializion, and Shield Mastery.
Paladins foregoing the use of Holy Shield, even when specced in it... etc

If Blizzard intended shield to be useless, you would be a DK, not a warrior or Paladin.

On the topic of "ZOMG KUNGEN DOES IT WE SHOULD TOO!"...
My response: Are you Kungen? No? Are you at his gearlevel? No?... Then sodoff and stop it!
Unless youre in full Heroic TOC gear and ICC25 gear as he already is, you have no reason to stamstack at all.

EJ models around you wearing BiS.
Not entry level ilvl 200-232 trash from heroics and normal mode 10man raids.

Yes its importand. but tbh u should defo not gem for it, if u get gear with it great, if you dont to bad. and u Should DEFO gem stamina allt he way, only enchant usefull on shield imo other then sta, is defence if your under the cap :P but thats usually not the problem i am stuck on 557 defence and no chance of being under the cap even if i stick some dps pieecs on for hcs, hell we even do hc speed runs witht he guild in the mornings as me in full ret gear and spec. really fun to do. but thats besides the point:P

Exp is importand and hit is importand, the biggest buff it gives is threat, with none of thse your threat might suck mor ethen u want it to.

keep in mind i have 3 tanking sets avoidance block and stamina and stamina is most commenly used. others 2 sets depends on the encounter mechanics aka anub 25 man hc = block set

Yes, the 50k warrior stamstacking out his ass, got instagibbed.
The 44k Paladin was not getting gibbed.

Furthermore towards the Kungein debate...
You do realize he doesnt stamstack the way i mean ppl stamstack out their asses to the point of stupidity.

http://wow-heroes.com/index.php?zone=eu&server=Tarren Mill&name=Kungen

There.
Go ahead and note the ~4 hybrid gems.

When i stay stamstack like a ****brained moron, i mean LITERALLY NOT A GODDAM THING IN THE GUY'S GEAR IS ANYTHING BUT STAMINA.

But fine.
If you are able to manage the same 70% avoidance/mit stats as Kugen has, I will say, go ahead, stack the stam through your ass!

At the same time, i do not agree with Kungen's approach at all, what with ZERO expertise and that horrible excuse for hit rating.
I can only imagine him having threat issues, with dps doing what i would imagine Ensidia's dps can dish out.

Its called MD, and warriors dont have threat issues at all, u do not need ext and hit unless your threat is sucky. what Abn0rm4l says i agree 100 % with

.

Stam stacking is still slightly more effective than avoidance tanking (RNG is still a pain in the ***) - bigger buffer.

In the perfect situation where a stamstacked tank and an avoidance tank had the same hp, obviously the avoidance tank would be better - but thats not the case.

Tankspot said:
EHP is better than avoidance because of the ways bosses are designed. Almost every tank-killer boss kills the tank with in a few seconds and usually with some unavoidable damage in there, think about how all of the dangerous bosses kill tanks.

Algalon: Can Burst down the tank down so quick and the healers have to move occasionally so there is always a chance you get insta-gimped. If you stack avoidance here you rely on RNG too much so you might as well give your self a bigger buffer for those situations.

Gormok: Kills you with a melee, Impale, Bleed combo. The only avoidable part of that combo is the melee so with avoidance you are relying on a melee dodge/parry/miss. When that melee hits which will happen eventually you will get burst down.

Marrowgar: Kills the tank by getting 3 hits in a row on a tank without heals. Again stacking avoidance here relys on RNG and when that situation happens and those melee hits will hit you eventually so you might as well give yourself a bigger buffer.

could not have said it better

I am confused as to whether you actually read the posts you are responding to. As you just stated, having no +BV gear you can easily get to 2K BV so if you had read my comment about BV, wasn't that is was useless, it was that it isn't worth sacrificing other stats to get this extra BV.

Then you start going into how some tanks are retards and don't use their abilities and neglect vital talents, this is not the discussion at all. If you want to twist the discussion into how other people suck and your way is the awesomeness, then there is no further use in this discussion.

As for Kungen, yes I agree it's silly gemming and gearing exactly like another tank especially when that tank has a significant gear advantage over you. You have to decide which stats fit you at your current level.

As for stacking stam, I still feel this is a valid way to go. Do I do this? No. Why? Because I feel the stats that you lose out on outweigh the addition stam that you get and I prefer having well rounded stats. There is nothing wrong with going either direction, it's just a slightly different playstyle, which both you and your healers need to be comfortable with. If you still insist that these "stamstacked" tanks are getting instagibbed, then either you are doing content that no-one has heard of yet where bosses hit you for more than 50k or you need to rethink about the meaning of "instantaneous".

Ok... let me at leasty try to explain this.
As impossible as it is to fully try explain the train of thought... try at least understand what im trying to convey.

Firstly.
What do i mean when i say stamstacking?
As noted before, when i say STAMSTACKED... i mean the guy is literally on the verge of 540 defense, his overall block/dodge/parry is below 40%... and every single gem and enchant he can humanly muster, is for stamina.

Moving on.
What is your job as a tank?
Two things.

1) Hold the attention of the enemy (Aggro)
2) Mitigate/avoid as much of the dmg that the enemy deals to you

If (2) was in fact not required... why cant i tank in my ret spec?
I can still reach 540 defense with the same gear!

Now, as you have 2 basic tasks as a tank... i want to focus really quick on the healer's job.

Heals have 1 Job:
Keep people, especially the tank, alive.
They do this by healing the damage that is indeed received.

Back to the tank.
By not mitigating the dmg as much as is in your power to do, you are not doing your (2) part of your job.
By instead stacking stamina, you are however, demanding that the healers make up for that.
What I am saying by this, is that yes, stamstackers are indeed being carried.
(Keep your panties dry, sit back and take a breath)

Now if we look at the frost badges tanking trinket.
What does this trinket do?
Adds stamina.
Adds a 2min CD 3k Damage mitigator.

Really odd.
2 Mins... 3k Dmg.

Ok, lets say i DONT use that trinket, lets look at a REALLY CHEAP/EASY Alternative.

Black Heart.
Black heart's proc has a 25% chance to activate.
Following very basic math it will take an average of 4 hits to proc. With 50% avoidance that's 6 enemy swings. If you're tanking a single mob, that's a 15 second delay (6 * 2.5). With the 45 second cooldown, that's one proc a minute (even in raid situations).
7000 Armor.
For 10 seconds, or if you want, 4 hits.

I'd be quite willing to bet that 7000 armor over 4 hits is much more total mitigated dmg than 3k (the amount from frost badge trinket).
Further accepting that Black Heart CAN proc every 45 seconds (internal cooldown), over a 2minute period, im very sure it will beat 3k by a continent's breadth.

But why do tanks assume the frost trinket is king?
"ZOMG ALMOST DOUBLE THE STAMINA!!!!!!"

Gratz. You just handed more work to the healers.
You are now being carried for a little more than you were yesterday.

1k hp more... 7k armor more... sorry boys, i vote armor all the way.

Sorry if this already turning wall of text.
Next part: Block.

Firstly to clarify, i would never recommend any tank should gem and gear specific to Block rating or Black value.
Yes there are exceptions, you will know them if its worth your time to know them.

Block rating of the average (i will take pally for this, just easier to start with) should be around 15-20%. For my sanity we will go with 20%.
Holy Shield (10 seconds duration, 8s cooldown) SHOULD be uptime 100%. Thats 30% Block rating, almost free so to speak.

That puts us on a nice, round 50%, chance to block. Run with me here, i know its not realistic, its just illustrative.
Ok.
Without gemming or gearing or enchanting into Block Value specifically, any average paladin should be NEAR 2k Block Value (naturally gained from strength) at ICC requirement levels.

That 2k, is a bit random, you wont always block the exact amount your value says you will, but lets not over-complicate it.
Block's damage reduction is applied AFTER other mitigation factors, such as armor, dmg-reducing trinkets, and talents.

Lets assume, boss hits for 50k to paperdolly.
Your armor, which at ICC gearlevels should be around 62-65% reduction (we will use 60% just to be soft on it), is applied to that.
Basic Required Talents: 12% (6% Righteous Fury, 3% Blessing Sanctuary, 3% Shield of Templar) -------> PS: im not even gonna bother with glyphs, try keep it simple
Damage Mitigated: 36k
Damage Left: 14k

Were now going to assume your trinkets etc are invalid and not up.

Block Value: AVG Median 2k (Just run with it)

Damage taken to HP: 12k

Boss hitting ever 2.5 Seconds, over 2 minutes= 48 Swings

With Shield: = 576k Dmg.
Without Shield = 672k Dmg.

100k dmg more... on to your healers. Disregarding the stress enough available in healing the raid... unavoidable dmg sources... etc etc.

We could now even push that further. A warrior with talent Critical Block, can block DOUBLE HIS BLOCK VALUE at quite a decent rate.

Just to show, Block is NOT useless. Far from it.
It is actually, rather damn useful. Especially when working TOWARDS that BiS status.

Don't go gemming it.
But now convince me that 83 Block Value from Titanium plate is worse than 18 Stam.

Now convince me that Black Heart is not possibly BETTER than the Frost Trinket, considering the 7k armor over 2 mins vs 3k dmg once every 2 mins.

All this considering, youre NOT BiS yet btw.
Dont come here slanting how awesome your gear, guildie's gear, whatever.

But were all guilty of preaching to the new players: "STACK TEH STAM BEBBY YEAHA LOOK MY EPEEN!"

Take this one step further and consider, that bosses hitting for 50k paperdoll... is Naxx 10 man.
How much MORE efficient are these numbers when more than doubled?
