This is on Vista
Been trying to get to the bottom of why when my USB External harddrive/s are connected that it takes forever for the pc to boot up.
Looks like the problem is somewhat fixed by disabling USB Legacy Support in the Bios.
With 2 USB drives connected 1 x 500Gb + 1 x 1000GB to get to the login screen takes:
Legacy is Enabled = 3min/20secs
Legacy Disabled = 45sec.

Done a transfer test and with Legacy Enabled vrs Legacy Disabled to the same drive it seems Enabled is giving me 2MB/SEC better transfer speed tho.
Think i can live with that as opposed to the slow boot ups.

Is there any other function that Legacy takes care of for why i should leave it Enabled vrs Disabling it??

Maybe for old mouse/keyboard and old memory sticks/printers. I think you can safely switch it off.

Weird that the boot is so much longer. What part of the boot process is lengthened?

Does the initial "hit f2 to enter setup" etc etc sequence straight away then goes blank black and just sits there doing nothing for 2.5 odd mins then the "microsoft corp" green progress bar appears then it goes blank again for 30-40 secs then it finally opens the log in screen.

Must be something stored on these drives that my PC likes watching before it decides to wake up and do some work.
Maybe i got the new Brittney vid without knowing it.

Seem to have it close enough with legacy off as a boot up without the drives connected is 30secs......45secs now with drives connected + Legacy Disabled

Lancelot someone on that site was thinking the issue was caused by Vista searching the drives looking to boot off them even tho that options removed from the boot order in the Bios...I seem to think its doing something like that also.

30-45s sounds normal for Vista.

If you want the legacy option fixed, you can try flashing the BIOS.
