External firewire case for ex macbook HD

Dude, I'm at work, where I'm stuck with a PC. With a Microsoft keyboard :-( At least I'm not running Windows on it....

That said, I'm pretty sure in FireFox on my Mac it's also Ctrl+D. Or is it Command+D?
/⌘ + D :)

Oooh this is nice! This is the first 2.5" enclosure I've come across that can take external power. Naaaaais!

Ctrl+D

Please post here if you find someone who stocks it locally. MacHeaven don't want to ship to SA.

Because they dont ship to SA?

Yup
Thank you for your email. Unfortunately MacHeaven is set up to provide products only to the Mainland UK and as such I am sorry that we cannot help you with your requirement.

Our policy is due to the constraints of our agreement with our credit card merchant account regarding foreign-issued cards and the technical and cost hurdles getting reliable overseas shipping estimates from our suppliers.

If our policy changes we will definitely let you know and hopefully we would be able to help you then.

Good luck in your search.

Try transintl.com - they most def ship to SA.

Good to know, they did not indicate it on their site when I visited there - any idea what shipping would be as I see its not listed on their shipping pages.

Firewire and USB

Hi guys

I used nanooelf http://www.nanoelf.co.za/inch-enclosure-firewire-p-201.html Good service( posted overnight) and the price is good too.

I have a 160 5400 drive in mine. No issues when using a six pin firewire cable. My docking station has the firewire port that supplies power. When I am mobile my laptop has the four pin slot (no power) so i am forced to use an external cable to supply power.

A single usb slot does not supply enough current so I am looking for a cable to supply the power. I have a dual usb cable but has the wrong usb slot on it for the enclosure, hence I am looking for the usb power cable that goes into the power point of the enclosure. Nanoelf supply the drive with a ps2 bypass power cable, however my laptop does not a ps2 slot undocked.

So to sum up I am very close to my solution. Just need to find the power cable.

Is that enclosure in the link SATA or IDE?? It does not specify on the site.

EDIT: Phoned them - it is IDE. They do not have 2.5 inch SATA firewire enclosures.

You will struggle to find a SATA drive enclosure that has both USB and Firwire locally at a decent price. I gave up and went IDE. Suppose its OK if you are buying a new drive to use in it like I did, but sucks if you already have a SATA drive.
