Hey guys and girls... :P

Anyways Im in the market for a External 3.5" SATA2 500gig Hard drive (Or something like that) for around R1000 but it must have an USB and eSata port...

Any suggestions on make and place to get it?

I see the Seagate Free Agent is around about R1000 but the Extreme with eSata is a lot more expensive?

I bought my second HDD
Mecer 500GB 3.5" with eSata (im not sure what it is maybe you could explain) for R799.00 at Game.

Thanks will have a look :)

eSata is much faster than USB... Basically an external SATA connection, theoretically it should be able to do the same speeds as internal hard drives via eSata, but it doesnt still its 2 - 3 times faster than USB in real-life tests.

Because Im looking at getting another 500gig I thought that if I can get an eSata external it would be fast enough to use as a kind-of internal HD :)

BTW How is the drive treating you? You maybe have the full name so I can see if I can maybe find some reviews

Its normal... just smaller than my iOmega HDD
The eSata has another cable? Im using the normal USB 2.0 connection but there is another cable, a flat type input, that must be the eSata cable?

I dont know the code, but have a look at Game they should have some in stock.

Yea its flatter... Do a google search... Some eSata drives also come with a PCI card with eSata socket, I know my Asus P5Q has eSata on the board...

You should look into it, faster Data transfer is always a bonus..

Thanks will do.

Vantec/Nexstar cases have the esata option also, take a 1TB drive no problem

Get a Vantec Nexstar case for about R350, it has USB2 and eSATA. Then add your own hard drive, and you are good to go.

eSATA occasionally annoyed me with poor drivers and so on but the speed increase makes up for it many times over. USB2 is scarily slow sometimes.

Yes but a 500 gig costs about R800 + case = R1150 were the Mecer will be both for just R800?

eSATA+USB 500GB (Seagate or WD) should go for around R1000 now. I have one and find that the eSATA churns out about 80MB/s compared to USB's 30M\B/s max.
