I borrowed a friend's external HDD but the power supply cable is damaged and i can't get it to switch. I have a seagate one and the adapter fits into his HDD but his power supply has these details:

Input: 100-240V~50-60Hz 0.8A
Output: 12V ----- 1.5A

Mine has these details:

Input: 100-240V~50-60Hz 0.9A
Output: 12V ----- 3A

Can i use my adapter to power his HDD?

Yes, it will only draw what is needed.

As long as they are both 12V and more or the same amps.
