I bought a seagate external hdd(400gig) a year and a half ago, and last month it started giving me a problem, it would spin up but windows wouldn't pick it up, after phoning customer care I was told that a new enclosure would sort out the problem..

So I recently purchased an enclosure but it only supports up to 300gigs, my drive is partitioned into two 200gigs, so it worked for a while until today..

If I physically move the drive around windows picks it up..

any idea what the problem might be, is it possibly a power problem?

Thanks in advance

You get limits on what the enclosures can handle? Does the enclosures light come on?

What happens when you move the drive around? Does it start spinning (was it spinning before)?

The light is constant when switched on and the drive spins up like normal and continues spinning, when windows picks up the drive is when the light flickers..

When I move the drive around windows picks it up as an external drive and it loads normally..

Their is no ticking noises at all..
