Hey all, I'm looking for an external drive to connect to my xbox 360. Will be quite happy with 250gb or less - even as little as 120gb will be fine methinks. Any suggestions on a quality make/model and where to get it for the best price? The only other consideration I have is that it must be USB powered and not need a separate power supply.

Thanks

Blue

if you connecting a hdd to your x360 you have to make sure its formatted with fat32 otherwise it wont work, why dot you just stream stuff from your pc, thats much better

yeah I'm aware of the FAT32 formatting, thx for the heads up tho :D

I want an external HDD coz my PC's a laptop and it only has 80gb of storage space, most of which is already full.

yip get a internal hard drive and a enclosure.......coolermaster released some nice ones, x-craft enclosures (usb only) is less than 300 (check prophecy.co.za), or you could go for vantec ones which also look cool, but are more expensive.

I've got a couple of the seagate 500gb ones hooked up to my media-Mac and they're great. Nice and quiet too which helps.

They make them in smaller sizes too. ;)

If USB power is essential then you'll have to go for a 2.5" enclosure rather than 3.5" one as the smaller drives run off 5v through the USB rather than the 12v used by the bigger drives. Bare in mind that 2.5" drives are alot more expensive than their 3.5" counterparts and even more so if you want them at the same speed.

Is the drive speed not limited by the USB connection anyway?

Depends on whether or not the ports are USB2 or not. I notice the speed difference between my 5600rpm 80gb 2.5" external drive vs. my 7200rpm 300gb 3.5" external drive

Ouch, I got wiki'd.

Newbness on my part notwithstanding, any thoughts on that drive? Is it a really dodgy brand?

I would rather buy the enclosure and hard-drive seperately, but thats just me :D
