I love how it takes one bit of news from space to make us realize how small we really are in the big scheme of things.

Some of those comparisons are mind blowing...
I particularly like the comparison of Canis Majoris to the earth where an earth the size of a golf ball would compare with CM the size of Mr Everest.
 
The galaxy is 3.8 billion light years from Earth. A light year is about 6 trillion miles.

I hate it when everything is put into perspective like that.
