What the hell is going on. Is anyone else here on the "Freeway Park" exchange? What are your speeds like?

Here is some speed tests from the Telkom website.

Telkom Internet
Download time: 35.313 seconds
Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
Estimated line speed: 115.5 (kilobits/second)
Estimated line speed: 14.2 (kiloBytes/second)

Web Africa
Download time: 44.281 seconds
Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
Estimated line speed: 92.1 (kilobits/second)
Estimated line speed: 11.3 (kiloBytes/second)

Is there anyone else in the Boksburg area getting SLOW speeds? I have tested http, ftp, torrents, wget (Linux). The results are the same, averaging about 15Kb/s.

Did you try running these tests multiple times to see the aggregate? Your connection with us certainly _should_ be no different than Telkoms.

if your telkom provider speeds are different to web africa on aggregrate, telkom are practicing more anti-competitive practices.

Hi guys and gals

I am new to adls. I only received it this week so forgive to if my questions are a bit silly.

I have had a 512k line installed and did the speed test. Does the following same right?

* Download time: 8.98 seconds
* Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
* Estimated line speed: 454.3 (kilobits/second)
* Estimated line speed: 55.7 (kiloBytes/second)

If so why is it that I am only getting an average of 10KB/s when downloading?

Thanks

Hey, take a look at this thread: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=23420

Are you getting 10kb on P2P?

Right now I am downloading with p2p and am getting 30kB/s with bitcomet this has been going on for about 2 weeks.on my 192 line . why are telkom being so nice lately. once star gate is finished I think i am going to do the speed tests. I was playing with TCPOptimizer i wonder if it has something to do with that

I am trying to help as much as I can from what I know, but keep in mind that I am not an expert (and not even really competant). P2P is influenced by your service provider AFAIK.... who is your ISP? Are you using a SAIX reseller or not?

I am with Telkom.. I have no if they use P2P
(ps .. I am not a broadband literate)

I am really not competant to help you. I was just asking you the questions that I know those in the know need to know in order to help you :)

I have no idea what your prob is, but you probably deserve it for using TelkomInternet as your ISP! Bad bad bad! :D

Who can give nitsckie advice, or explain to him what the story is?

What is a good ISP?

This depends on what is important to you. ISPs vary in terms of prices, packages, and level of customer support. You need to know what is important to you before you choose an ISP.

Having Telkom as an ISP has got advantages. However, in the telecoms where we have so little choice it is a good idea to boycott Telkom in those service-areas where we DO have a choice. There are some very strong arguments to be made for supporting the smaller ISPs: not only are many better than TelkomInternet with regards to customer service. At the end of the day, boycotting TelkomInternet in favour of another ISP helps to create a more competitive VANS market from which consumers benefit.

See this link, I hope it helps you: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=34004
