About this time of the night my eyes are usually very painful. I spend at least 80% of my working life in front of a PC monitor... Like most people on this forum. Is this unusual? I wear glasses during the day but the moment I take them off my eyes burn.

100% same... Only thing that helps is a hell of a long night rest. 8hours+
I sure do hope its normal myne burns & is scratchy as hell NOT LEKKA

D-D-D-D-Dry eye.

Do yourself a favor and read up about it, you'll get an awful lot better information than "Blink more often".

I've had chronic dry eye for 10 years solid now and it is a pain in the ass of note. Like most unpleasant things, medical science has no cure.

There are however eye plugs (which last around 5 years and do wonders) or seek supplement solutions. Both work but I recommend the plugs and a light amount of the supplements. (Taking them as they suggest costs a FORTUNE but is necessary if you don't have the plugs).

Of course drops are another option but I find the majority don't help me.

[Edit]
Though ITCHYness is another factor. Burning on it's own is most likely dry eye, where as burning accompanied by itching is most likely the result of allergies. (There are drops for that)

Thanks Basjohn. I'll definitely do some reading on this... I must spend about 12 hrs daily in front of a monitor. This problem is making me less productive. :(

My right eye is also killing me recently - particularly at night and on the morning commute :/

I have noticed that optometrists are QUICK to prescribe glasses! Or is it just me? Look I CANNOT argue with the pros but when I went for my test I could "read all those letters" but he insisted that I need glasses because one of my eyes is "working too hard to focus" while working on a PC... hence tired, burning, reddish eyes at the end of a work day. Anyone with a similar experience? Or should I just shut up and listen to the pros?

Use a decent monitor with a good IPS-S panel. Ensure that ambient lighting is good, avoid reflections on monitor so always go with a matte display.

Is it possible that you could have an allergy?

I used to wear contacts but I got terrible allergies which were aggravated by my contacts. I had to go onto quarter-zone for 2-3 weeks to clear it up and I'm now on glasses.

I still get a slight burning sensation but as some people have said, it seems to be 'fixed' after a good night's rest.

Make sure the ambient lighting is fairly high. The idea is to reduce the contrast between screen & room...so no PC w/ lights off etc.

Drinking large amounts of coffee/tea/booze can also be a factor as they a diuretics.

/switches on lights.
I haven't always used my office light. I argued that there's enough natural light coming thru and there was no need to have lights on. I'll try it for about a week & see if things improve.
I have one cup of tea/coffee a week... It can't be that. :)

It's a simple matter to ask for the results. Having one eye weaker than the other is a problem. You can live without the glasses because your stronger eye will compensate, but it will be working overtime.

Thanks guys! I had my office lights on today and used some eye drops and IF this is not ONLY in my head, I'm already noticing the difference. Usually this time of the night I cant stand a PC monitor but tonight is different.
