I have purchased a data card and for some or other reason the application does not want me to connect. I have to connect setting up a manual dial-up connection. The connect button on the MTN software is dimmed.

Can somebody please help?

Go to your Fastlink Software settings.

Under Network, Preferred make sure it's not on 3G Only. If you don't have 3G coverage then you won't be able to connect. Set it to 3G prefered then it will still use GPRS/EDGE.

See if that works

I prefer not to use the "prefered" options. I rather use "GPRS/EDGE Only" or "3G Only" options. When on "prefered" I tend to loose connections to servers when the automatic switch is made.

Me too, it's just for trouble shooting.;)

Using the Fastlink E620 Data card and the MTN dashboard. The dashboard says I have used 13142KB but the Windows network icon in the systray says Sent 315,923 bytes & 1,143,923 bytes received.

Am I reading this wrong or what?? The icon in the systray reports the correct figure according to my data usage but I cannot correlate the traffic summary on the dashboard.

Another thing i wanna know - isn't there some way where we could ask the software developers to make the damn green light flash in a different way when it's connected to HSDPA... cause u don't have a CLUE when it's GPRS / EDGE or 3G / HSDPA...

The Vodacom ones flash different when they're connected to 3G or HSDPA.

And i'm in a region where there's "Supposedly" HSDPA - but the ONLY time i ever downloaded at 176kbps was when the football worldcup was on!....it's never gone faster than 50KB/s since!

Green is 3G/HSDPA, Blue is GPRS/EDGE - according to the Huawei manual and if you have the dashboard open it also tells you what signal you receiving but only GPRS/EDGE or 3G/HSDPA.

... hmm Ok you got a point - I was reading yr post a little incorrectly

Well, theoretically if you want to connect to HSDPA - You would have to check if you're in the footprint of 3G/HSDPA when you connect up you can do a online broadband test to see what speed you getting but I will bring that up with Huawei.

My problem - and the reason i want to know whether i'm in 3G or HSDPA is because it SAYS That i'm in a HSDPA footprint (with V GOOD signal), but then i only d/l at 50KBps.... which indicates it's 3G...

So then someone's lying, or there's fault with my datacard.

Connect problem

Yes - I have set the network settings, and used them all, but the connect button is still dimmed. I also use other persons software, but it didn't made any difference. I only receive GPRS/EDGE. The manual connection works it doesn't wnat to connect thorugh the software.

I had a similar problem. The connect button was grayed out. I was able to connect with a manual dail-up connection. It connects an autenticates, but I could not access any web sites.

After some Google searching, I suspected that my TCP/IP stack was damaged. The program WinsockxpFix fixed the problem for me.

It is freeware (and works on Windows 2000 as well).

;)

Do i need to uninstall the data card software first, before running WinsockxpFix?

If it's grayed out then it's not picking up the network that you've selected.

Have you tried GPRS/Edge?

It picked up up the network. It showed "3G/HSDPA MTN-SA".
My signal strength was about 1 bar. (not good but sufficient)

As mentioned, the program WinsockxpFix fixed my problem. !!!!

I am not sorted yet as I didn't install the WinsockxpFix yet. I will let you know if this will fix my problem.

Do you have the latest version of the Fastlink software installed?

Go to "menu" and then "about". What is the software version?
