F1 2008

The far end of the pit lane is closed when the safety car and follow pack are passing the exit of the pits. This is for safety, and to prevent confusion of rejoining cars. Once the pack has passed the cars may rejoin the race at the end of the pack. It's a price you pay for pitting under safety car conditions.

Going through this red light can result in you being disqualified from the race.

the rules relating to the SC are pretty stupid. They'll be trailling a new system in France which involves use of the ECU to select a SC profile.

brad im pretty sure when the light went green they would race off the line

lets not ask how stupid kimi or kubica where here, lets admit this was a silly mistake by hamilton and not ask question of anyone else who stopped at the light

regardless of where they stopped

they atleast stopped and know the rules

i wonder if he will get some sort of penalty for this

As stupid as Hamilton's error was, I think it was stupid of Kimi to park next to Kubica on the line out of the pitlane... what was he thinking? What are the rules for exiting the pitlane - don't you have to actually be in the 'lane'?

The pitlane exit is wide enough for two cars abreast and they have been doing this for years. He was thinking 'If I can get the jump on Kubica off the line here (perfectly legally) then I stand a d@mn good chance of winning the race'

Hamilton suffered brain fade and both he and Kimi paid the price thereon. As to whether a 10 place grid slot penalty is enough of a penance to pay, well that will differ amongst the supporters. Personally both LH and NR should have been docked points in the next race as it is waaa...aay too easy to still win from 10 places back and still get the benefit of the points, whereas Kimi suffered a DNF (i.e. no points) due to the hugely stupid mistake of LH.

yup he will start no lower than 10th for the french gp just been confirmed on cnn

I assume you mean no HIGHER. If he gets pole he will be pushed back to 10th, if he is 2nd, to 11th etc etc.

rv NR cannot win with a 10place drop

he normally qualifies 5-8 meaning he will start 15-18

when i say lower i mean numerically, so he cannot start lower than 10th / higher than 10th for ppl who think this way :)

lewis hamilton will not get pole, the ferrari;s will be dominant meaning he will qualify 3 or 4th dropped him to 13th-14th

its quit a bad penalty and i think its fine, i dont think docking points would be fair to be honest

something i've been thinking and saw it mention on the pf1 forum is how ferrari of late have been terrible with respect to strategy and pitstops. certainly markedly worse than when schumi was there.

milo u dont need a forum to a notice it

massaa looked like he could have won in monaco but they filled his car to the end of the race and never put him on full wets

thats how hamilton won, they never filled his car and put him on wets, then when it dried it was fine and he built such a large gap that it was all over

ferrari filled his car making him slower plus he had bad grip

this race they should have filled massa when he was parked waiting for a pitstop they didnt

very poor by ferrari last 2 races

LOL! Stranger things have happened ;-)

It is not a forgone conclusion that LH will not get pole, the opportunity exists. He may well start from 13th, but the reality is that in terms of penalty he still has opportunity to score points, but in knocking Kimi out, he lost the opportunity to score points. So effectively to negate this, he should not be allowed to score points.

The reality is that he incurred a penalty, which in my books is right and fair. As to the severity of it, that is debatable.

All in all this is turning into one h3ll of a season and nothing makes a better WC than one which has to fight hard to get there. :D

And if LH has some engine problems during practises, this would result in a 10+10 position penalty, effectively starting then at the back of the grid, right?

That would be correct, but the chances of that happening are slim ;-)

Not so much Schumi as Ross Brawn.

LH = twit.

Nicest thing about this race was that after the crash with Lewis and Kimi i heard lewis's name maybe 3 or 4 times not in every second sentence!

What about the chances of Kubica winning the championship now? It's early days yes, but I mean, he doesn't have the car to match Mclaren or Ferrari BUT if Hamilton, Massa and Raikkonen keep taking points off each other, and Kubica stays consistently there or thereabouts... fancy that

kubica even before this race not far behind

he has a very real chance

he need to finish top 3 rest of the season for this to actually happen

Possible but I think with 2 points more for a win to second place he will have to win some more races(2 points in the F1 is huge these days). There is the chance of non finishes for the Mercs and Ferrari's as but that includes him as well.

The person thats gonna win it according to me will have to have a good average and win some races with the least amount of DNF's.
