F1 2009 new rules...

Am I missing a point? What is it going to cost the teams to implement KERS? All the developing and testing. Doesnt make any sense.

I would love to see lets say 3 teams with the current years Ferrari enjine and 3 with Mercs and BMW and so on. Would be most interesting. Cant understand why Ferrari sells the previous years enjine to other team. If a Ferrari enjine wins its still Ferrari powered.

They don't get any constructors points though...:(

Torro Rosso race the current engine... nothing new there... in fact Torro Rosso have been faster through the speed traps on a number of occasions.

Two minor incidents have been reported during testing of KERS systems in 2008. The first occurred when the Red Bull Racing team tested their KERS battery for the first time in July, it malfunctioned and caused a fire scare, resulting in the team's factory being evacuated.[11] The second was less than a week later when a BMW Sauber mechanic was given an electric shock when he touched Christian Klien's KERS-equipped car during a test at the Jerez circuit.[12] Vodafone McLaren Mercedes have recently begun testing of their KERS system at the Jerez test track in preparation for the 2009 F1 season, although it is not yet known if they will be operating an electrical or mechanical system.[[13]]

So the new system does come with addition risks.

I have to agree with tomato about the top teams being at an advantage regarding the 3 races per engine rule. Will be interesting to see how the other teams get around this.

FIA pushes on with single engine plan

Bad news for F1 IMO...
It is not clear which companies have expressed an interest in applying for the tender contract, but senior sources within FOTA claim an agreement is in place for none of the manufacturers currently involved in F1 to apply for the deal.

The FOTA source told autosport.com: "None of the FOTA members will apply. This has been confirmed by all the members."
Hmmm... VW? Lotus? Audi? No more F1 IMO.

I can see why Ferrari want out if this will be the case... who remembers Todt's words some time ago:
Todt also felt that Ferrari was justified in getting a better financial package than other teams. "Ferrari has always been special and is tied to F1 just as F1 is tied to Ferrari. It helped to create what F1 is today. It is like in the movies where the stars get paid more. Ferrari is a star and wants to be paid like a star. The others might be frustrated but they would demand the same if they were in our situation."
