F1 2011 thread

Excellent race. I still think Button is a better driver than the hamster!
Nah, he's a 11 season veteran but far from great. Hamilton's essentially still learning. He's a rookie in comparison and showing that this season..

Au contraire, it was an error that anyone could have made. I've seen Schumacher make worse mistakes. Though granted some deliberate.

Yep. I totally agree. I think Hamiltons coming together with Kobayashi was a true racing incident. Neither driver was trying anything stupid or reckless at the time. Unfortunate outcome, but it happens to the best of them.
I don't think Button is the better drive. He is consistent, but a bit boring compared to Hamilton.
Buttons good result are usually due to strategy moves (like 1 less stop than the others, or being more conservative with tyres, etc). Hamiltons good results are always due to aggressive driving and determined overtakes.
As a McLaren supporter, I look forward to watching Hamilton because he usually fights tooth and nail for good results. Alonso is the same and this is most likely why they cannot be teamed together.

That was some awesome drive for Schumi. Nice to see him beat Rosberg for a change lol.

I'm not a Schumi fan, but credit where its due - Michael did put in a great performance. Considering that Rosberg was actually leading the race in the opening stint and Schumi was fighting backmarkers, it should make Schumis victory over his teammate that much sweeter.

At the moment button is in top form, hamilton may have him covered in quali but on race day button seems on the money both with his driving and strategy.

Are you saying button does not fight tooth and nail to bring home good results? Odd i saw button tearing up the track today trying to win, 13 to 3rd is a good effort. Better than second and a DNF like the so called exciting racer. Exciting racer is perhaps what hamilton is but it seems that is all he will ever be. An accident waiting to happen :D.

I'm with BigAl-sa here... Jenson is brilliant.
Sandmanm3... Lewis still learning? We're talking about a World Champion here, not so? Today's wreck was a racing incident but Lewis hasn't been great under pressure this year.
Not aggressive ColonelJAck? I'm not sure which race you were watching, couldn't have been today's race where Jenson was 10th after the safety car and then passed Schumacher, Sutil, Rosberg, Massa and, and, and... on the racetrack!
I know people say he's only good when conditions are changeable but to me, that really doesn't cut it... I race... I've been on track running slick tyres when the rain has come down and how Jenson does what he does in those conditions astounds me.
Well done to Red Bull for the one/two today but my drivers of the day were Jenson and Michael... 'nuff said.

Good to see hamilton taking the blame but i would like to see the old ham back, the happy racer who didn't have the weight of the world on his shoulders. That happy go lucky smiling annoying brit that we first saw, this sour dejected hamilton is no good for f1.

Come on hamster get it together and find f1 fun again!!!

Hamilton is not happy unless he is winning races - much like Vettel. That's what I love about him. I'd far rather watch him try and fail than not try at all. The race had genuinely exciting moments and while the point of racing is to win, if the journey to the chequered flag is dull, the point is lost. I for one don't mind watching Hamilton in a slower car and would love for Vettel to have a slower car too.

Totally agree with you.
Its all about the on-track performance. I remember how everybody I know ran down Raikonnen because his english was poor and he spoke in a monotone.
Other than 1 dull season at Ferrari (with a silly looking peak cap), he was often setting the track alight.
It would be interesting to see Vettel have a quali mishap and then have to race from 18th or something.
We've seen many of the old hands win from the back or even make the podium.
Wonder if the wunderkindt can do it.
Vettels qualifying ability is sensational. So is his dominance from the front.
I wonder if he can kick butt from the back of the field.

You don't recall vettel not racing for redbull do you? I bet you cannot even recall when he won his first race.

I somehow wonder if you guys only know the vettel from redbull or do you even remember him before redbull?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sebastian_Vettel

There is a refresher for you. You could see the superstar long before he became one. It seems germany know how to pump out incredible unbeatable drivers who can dominate for years and vettel for me is without a doubt a driver who can dominate f1 for years to come, he has proven he can drive a shyte car into good positions. This is an interesting comment prior to his redbull drive:

Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz stated his belief Vettel would be one of Formula One's big stars in the future. "Vettel is one of the young guys with extraordinary potential [...] He is fast, he is intelligent, and he is very interested in the technical side. remind you of anyone?

I love hearing how we must see vettel prove himself, he does it everytime he gets in that redbull and puts it on pole. Perhaps he is not like the other drivers who cannot do it race after race but he is a proven driver and you could see way before he drove for redbull all he needed was a car and he would be a super star. anyone who questions his wonderkid status surely is either new to f1 or a hamilton fan :p. of course it is just the car people will say but you could see the wonderkid before he got a good car.

LOL i said new or a hamilton fan :D. Well if you can show me another driver as dominant as michael i will concede my point, if you think vettel will be a one hit wonder like the hamster you have another thing coming. the new michael is in town so we better get used to him dominating and everyone driving for second :D.

He is already a two time champion, we just need to see out the season. He put a torro rosso on pole :D and won in one. Come on now that screams wonder kid

Formula BMW ADAC ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg R20 W18 P14

Granted hamilton is just as impressive but he is an accident waiting to happen :p

Vettel is a wunderkind in his Redbull. Winning a wet race in a slow car is nothing new. Olivier Panis won at Monaco in a Ligier. Alonso is arguably one of the best and most experienced guys out there atm but what happened to him? Is Vettel that much better than him? I don't think so. Michael was as good as his car, like every other driver.

Which car would that be, the ferrari or benetton? I wonder if a good car is only as good as the driver, if the car was the most important thing surely webber would have won more races? Look at hamilton and button, same car neck and neck showing you that both are as good as each other. Webber shows that vettel is by far the superior driver. So i am going to assume hamilton only won the f1 championship due to the car he had right? Not really anything to do with his ability just an amazing car.

The one designed by the same guy who designed the 2010 WC winning car ;)

Hamilton has moments of brilliance then he destroys his chances of winning a championship. Lets be honest the RB is not nearly as dominant a car over the others as last year, Vettel just stepped up to the plate and delivered. Last years championship leaders are all just 10-20 points of each other this year. For most of the year the RB has only been good in Quaily but on race day it was a different story. If McLaren was more consistent not only their drivers but strategy calls Vettel wouldn't have run away with the tittle. That and their drivers only took points of each other like the RBs last year. Button for me this year was better than Lewis so far, may not have out qualified him more but for a number 2 driver shown more constancy and better strat calls, and unlike Hamilton didn't take him self and others out of races. I would love the see Vettel and Hamilton in the same car. But then of course Vettel would only be better because his being favoured by the team :P

So he was not good in the benetton only the ferrari yet won two titles before joining ferrari? Are you just ignoring the years he never had the better car but still won a championship?

Remember the villenueve battle when he never had the best car? benetton both championships his car was on par with others as well, the hakkinen days you don't recall those?

Hamilton vettel partnership would be sweet!!!! even alonso vettel would be epic. perhaps with a bit of kubica chucked in if he ever recovers.
