F1 2012 thread

I hope you are correct.

Ever considered they take the BBC and the other half of the races would be left to our local yokals

That's a funky looking nose.

Talking about funky noses...
Bernie wasn't a bad looking bloke as a youngster. A bit rough on him up there considering his age!

Good old 70s.

Maclaren's curved nose definitely looks better than all these other stepped ones.

We'll just have to see how they perform though.

Well hamilton says he is loving the car, i suspect though there is a reason the other teams have done the nose the way they have and mclaren will be off the pace. They will have to redesign the nose. When redbull have a nose like they do you just get that bad feeling for mclaren, redbull without a doubt have the best designer.

I could be wrong but i just got that sneaky feeling. We won't have any idea until we get to melbourne. all these tests and what not cannot be taken seriously. Not long to go though.

http://www.planetf1.com/driver/3213/7491437/Boss-Launched-McLaren-was-plastic- expect to see some changes to the Mclaren in Australia me thinks, can't see how they are the only team that went for that design ?

Knowing mclaren the nose won't change. the trouble is the teams have no idea about their rivals pace. So the first GP will be a shock for many. I suspect redbull will be up there, ferrari will be a tractor again because they are bloody useless at designing anything decent. Mercedes will more than likely have a design that is not Tyre friendly but i hope one of the smaller teams bring something big :D

All we can hope is that someone has a good enough package to take on the redbulls. Force india could have something decent this season

My predictions for the performance of the cars

Red Bull, McLaren, Ferrari, Lotus, Mercedes, Force India, Toro Rosso, Sauber, Williams, Caterham, Marussia, HRT

AND no matter how wrong I am with McLaren, they will either be 1st or 2nd by season ending. That's how well they turn around!! I am hopeful Lotus is up there and I wish Ferrari is decent for competition sake. Vettel can win but it shouldn't be comfortable!!

Problem with vettel is he takes a superb car and makes it untouchable so we best hope they are well of the pace because he is a monster in a good car and i hope to see him prove everyone wrong by driving home a car to victory on par with everyone else.

We would think so but in practice you might want to do weird stuff with the flow, like detach it or something like that.

This might be a dumb question, but wouldn't a curved nose be more aerodynamic than a stepped one?

Stepped nose gets more clean air under the front because you can get the nose higher.

Also apparently the airflow against the step gives the car downforce?

I would think the step will surely give you extra downforce at the front. But then again it might not be desirable since the rear now has less downforce due to blown diffusers being banned. So then might be imbalanced!

It may be different depending on the rest of the design. Look at some of the car last with blown diffusers, they never performed and some did.

I really can't wait for the new season to start.
My hopes remain that Ferrari will produce a good car again.... hopefully this is the year....

I REALLY hope Massa does good this year. It just seems like he's lost his spark.
In all honesty though, the 2 guys that seem to outperform their cars (even if it's the leading car) are Alonso and Vettel.

I think that nose was one of the big guns' idea of a joke. Launch their car with a botched nose job and everyone works frantically to reproduce it. Come race day and it's nowhere to be seen :D

I think you're just jealous coz your dog has no nose :D

EDIT: *Waits for corny applause* :o

Well Massa is the usual bend over guy that ferrari loves having. Barrichello was the previous one! They're legends but their history is something I don't like. As opposed to the complete respect I have for McLaren.
