F1 2012 thread

That Lotus is looking really good, and we know the engine is excellent.... mmm red bull gonna have to watch out.... I'm sure the works team will get new engine enhancements before the non-works teams.... Plus Kimi always been a fav of mine, I think he's good to go for wins!

Extra obstacles for Lewis:

Aus: McLaren team calling Hamilton in too late after his tires had "fallen off the cliff" costing him massive time (first pit stop).
Safety car screwing him over costing him a place to Vettel cause Hamilton to finish in 3rd.

Mal: First pit stop: Rear jack costing Hamilton massive time.
2nd pit stop: Team taking very long to remove a piece of debris from front left suspension.

Chn: 5 place grid drop due to gear box failure

Bah: 1st pit stop problem costing him massive time
2nd pit stop problem costing him massive time

Despite all this, Hamilton is still right in the thick of the championship race.

Official stewards verdict from Bahrain;

Rosberg vs Hamilton
1. The driver of car eight commenced his move to the right after the exit from turn three and moved to the right in a constant and continuous straight line manner, not making any sudden movements (as evidenced by telemetry and video evidence) and;
2. At the time he commenced his move, car four was behind him and no part of his car was alongside car eight and;
3. The driver of car eight made the move to the right prior to the driver of car four making the same move and;
4. For more than half of the distance travelled by car eight in moving in a straight line towards the right hand edge of the track, car four remained behind car eight and;
5. Because the delta speed between the two cars was quite significant it was difficult for car eight to detect the exact position of car four in relation to his own car;
6. Had a significant portion of car four been alongside that of car eight whilst car four still remained within the confines of the track, then the actions of car eight may not have been considered legitimate.

Rosberg vs Alonso
1. The driver of car eight commenced his move to the right after the exit from turn three and moved to the right in a constant and continuous straight line manner, not making any sudden movements (as evidenced by telemetry and video evidence) and;
2. At the time he commenced his move, car five was behind him and no part of his car was alongside car eight and;
3. The driver of car eight made the move to the right prior to the driver of car five making the same move and;
4. For more than half of the distance travelled by car eight in moving in a straight line towards the right hand edge of the track, car five remained behind car eight and;
5. Because the delta speed between the two cars was quite significant it was difficult for car eight to detect the exact position of car five in relation to his own car;
6. No part of car five was alongside that of car eight.

In a nutshell; ''tough but okay''.

Rosberg was choosing his line in a non-erratic way and was not ''cutting across the bows'' while Alonso and Hamilton chose to run it wide. And funny how Hamilton hasn't said too much. Hamilton is by nature an aggressive driver, sometimes to his own detriment, but to give him credit, he has a nutsack.

Awesome stuff, i wonder if hamilton doesn't win how long people will say it's easy to win from pole.

The mclaren though i suspect is a great one lap car but come race day i dunno it seems to lack race pace. Redbull seemed more concerned about tires which is slightly odd, they seemed to be scrubbing them more than actually trying for pole. granted there wasn't a driver capable of touching hamilton. Should be a great race and hamilton deserves to win at least one this season :p

Awesome to see maldonado up there

Awesome stuff! I hope Alonso/Ferrari are actually that fast! If so then woooohooooo!

Lotus are very nicely positioned. If the Mclaren don't have race pace, I suspect Kimi and Grosjean could dominate this race all the way seeing how fast they are. Sterling job by Alonso again, but like he said himself just now, they are over performing with that quali. Dunno how Maldonado will perform at the front-end in the race, so an unknown quantity for now.

I'm counting on your opinion of McLaren being in line with your earlier opinion on Mercedes :p

He only deserves to win after he crosses the line in front. He's lost out twice (and they've replaced that tyre change mechanic), but it's not possible to assume he would have won those races.

I'm looking forward to that. Lotus are going to have race pace IMO.

What the hell is going on :-D looks like Lotus has got a good year ahead! Forgot to set my fantasy league this weekend!

Update: Hamilton stripped of pole position. He will start at back of the grid. FIA claims there was not enough fuel left in the tank for testing...

I got this from Twitter

Haha loving Hamilton starting at the back!!! Guess he wasn't so fast after all.

Hamilton excluded from qualifying results; Maldonado on pole
12 May 2012

McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton has lost his pole position for Sunday’s Spanish race after the stewards found his car did not have sufficient fuel onboard to comply with the rules on its return to parc ferme.

As a result of the decision, Williams’ Pastor Maldonado inherits pole for the Barcelona round, whilst Hamilton - excluded from the qualifying results - will start from the back of the grid.

The Briton stopped out on track at the end of Q3, after being told over his radio to pull over at the side of the circuit. There wasn’t enough fuel in his MP4-27 to enable it to return under its own power to the pits and for the team to provide a one-litre fuel sample in post-qualifying scrutineering, as required by the sport’s technical regulations.

After a lengthy discussion, the FIA stewards rejected McLaren’s case - put forward by team representative Sam Michael - that the car had stopped out on track due to reasons of ‘force majeure’.

"A team member had put an insufficient quantity of fuel into the car, thereby resulting in the car having to be stopped on the circuit in order to be able to provide the required amount for sampling purposes,” explained the FIA in a statement. “As the amount of fuel put into the car is under the complete control of the competitor, the stewards cannot accept this as a case of force majeure.

"The Stewards determine that this is a breach of Article 6.6.2 of the FIA Formula One Technical Regulations and the Competitor is accordingly excluded from the results of the Qualifying Session. The Competitor is however allowed to start the race from the back of the grid."
