F1 2012 thread

Most of the controversy this year is because of Hamilton and his stubborn driving style. He's always stuck in the racing line then cries whenever some bumps into him, get rid of Hamilton I say. Imagine mclarens bill? They have to build a new car after every race, he's costing them money!
I view Maldonado the same as Hamilton, both reckless, just that Maldonado gets the penalties while Hamilton gets away with things.

+10000!

Did anybody else pickup all the action at the Bus Stop chicane? Did we all see the tough racing through there? Did we all see the drivers giving each other room to live and fight? Rewind to Valencia. Did we all see Hamilton NOT give Pastor room to live and fight in the chicane? Ran him right off the road and cried when they made contact. Vettel/Webber. Vettel/MS. Rosberg and a few folks. All hard fighting into the chicane BUT they all gave each other enough room to make it through.

really???, we'd be saying that?

And all your vids prove absolutely nothing..."Thats how we did it back then" does not make it right. The sport and rules continuously change to make it safer for the drivers - and if we cant engineer safety into the mechanics of the vehicle, then we must engineer it into the behaviour of drivers. And if harsh punishment gets us to the right behaviour then so be it.

Accidents will always happen, and cannot always be avoided...but recklessnes can be avoided with the right incentives. This is race, not a deathrace

My videos prove accidents happen in Formula One. Always have and always will. And far worse accidents have happened when compared to the scuffle on Sunday.

The problem is the slightest touch is now investigated. Two cars bang each other through a chicane; Investigation. This is a difficult sport to pass in, drivers are going to and often have to push the limits when attempting passes. Will we be happy when aggressiveness is entirely elimated and replaced with clinical procession driving with the odd DRS/KERS assisted pass as the end of a long straight?

One other thing, WTf happen to pastor. I don't recall seeing the replay of his accident.

I only saw a photo but he tagged a Marussia at the first corner. Knackered his wing and may have damaged his right front wheel/suspension. Unless the team just told him to park it as he was probably going to be penalised for the jump-start anyway and his race was effectively over.

And If Hamilton was a better driver, he would have been higher on the grid ... I always get a satisfactory grin when he is out of a race ... I get that warm and fuzzy feeling

I assume you aren't a Vettel fan at least.

Check this awesome coin I found whilst cleaning out one of my cupboards

Nice! :)

I think they had a battle and they are two aggressive drivers on the start. This time it was us in the wrong place at the wrong moment, and we were hit. But it is also true that in 12 races, Romain has had seven crashes at the start.

Oh great not you as well

You'd be utterly stupid to think most controversy this year is due to Hamilton. Like I said before, the Valencia contact has been his only incident this year. Why not go moan about Grosjean who has had 7 incidents?

Sure, did you check my video? Grosjeans move wasn't an 'aggressive overtaking maneuver' at the chicane.. It was a stupid move on a straight line that didn't need to happen.

The dude just grates my cheese. He has a history of brain fades but then whinges when someone gets a little rough with him. If you want to serve it you best be prepared to eat it.

How many of those incidents are his fault though? Pretty sure Grosjean has been the victim more often than the "aggressor". He's had terrible luck and not always through his own fault.

How was it aggressive? You always see cars jostling at the start. I've seen drivers pull far more erratic moves when heading into a corner after the start. How often do we see a polesitter run the guy alongside him right to the very edge of the track in order to maintain position?

I'm sorry, but this is all a bit much. The 'Daily Telegraph' dubbed it a "horrific crash". That is ridiculous. I dunno, maybe growing up with F1 in the 90s has something to do with it. I have seen far worse than what happened on Sunday, including 3 ferocious accidents at Spa alone; both BARs totalling themselves at Eau Rouge in '99 and Luciano Burti's near fatal career ending crash in 2001 after he tangled with Irvine on the high-speed approach to Blanchimont.

Grates your cheese. At least you're honest. Others here can learn from that. It's OK to be emotional about someone, as long as you don't pretend to not be biased.

He's talented and I appreciate his fighting spirit (when he's not overdoing it), but the fact that he makes a scene when people do unto him as he has done unto others just rubs me the wrong way.

Outside of Michael Schumacher I honestly don't have a favourite driver anymore. Just that some just irritate me more than others. When he first retired my interest in the sport dipped and has never been as strong as what it was in the 90s and early 2000s. Now I root for the less fancied team/driver running competitively.

It was an aggressive move. Dunno why you feel the need to defend that :)
He was trying to cut Hamilton off - he had plenty of room otherwise.
Being an aggressive driver is not the problem, not being careful at the start of 7 out of 12 grands prix is. Granted, some of them weren't his problem, but 7/12... more than 50% of your races having incidents before lap 1 is over...

Awesome weekend ahead, over taking a plenty.

Perhaps another button domination, provided anyone who can beat him is taking out by hamilton again.
