F1 2012 thread

I doubt any of us can see who the top two F1 drivers are and it's always going to be opinion. I can tell you with way more certainty who the top designers are at the moment.

The top two drivers, alonso and vettel without a doubt. Look at the points. Neither driver has had the best car this season, mclaren were the best for the opening but they let themselves down mostly.

I think alonso is the best driver on the grid, given a pole car he would walk over everyone except vettel. Alonso can still win the title, i hope he does.

I disagree, Red Bull didn't have the best car until recently. They are all but untouchable right now. Alonso has already started the mind games as per last week's comments. He knows his best shot is to get Vettel rattled into making a mistake until he (Aloinso) is given a better car.

Vettel pomping again with the hamster chasing him.

Come on alonso FFS get that car on the front row and win!!!!!!!!. I hope vettel crashes or his car breaks down, alonso deserves a title. Then again vettel has also done extremely well and deserves it but geez 3 in a row is greedy.

LOL. Confused post of the year :D
Alonso deserves to have Vettel DNF? Like I said, you're watching the wrong race, it's between Newey and whatshisname. :P

Go Hamilton you beauty!
Alonso has problems here, but wonder what happened to Vettel on track and whether it affects his race? Alonso has little chance against that Red Bull right now unless the FIA is going to arrange for Vettel to start at the back :D

I expected Button to be a bit faster - the Redbulls are still consistently fast - Webber proved that. Hamilton has found something special though.

I vote Vettel gets penalised for trying to qualify on fumes. That would be like throwing it away. Especially since Alonso wasn't all that fast.

So what was wrong with Vettel's brakes today? Could it be that they had to replace the 'trick brakes' with legal ones?

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/103958

AUTOSPORT can reveal that Red Bull wrote to motor racing's governing body ahead of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix to seek clarification on the use of thermal energy devices within the air duct of the brake system.

The team contended that attempts to use either a bimetallic strip - which would change shape to open and close off cooling ducts depending on the temperature of the brake friction material - or a thermal actuator was a breach of the regulations.

In the letter, a copy of which has been seen by AUTOSPORT, Red Bull argued: "Use of such technology via either of the examples offered or similar devices will change the brake system, thus including the air duct, and are not reacting to the driver's direct physical input and are not under his complete control at all times as required by Article 11.1.4 [of the F1 technical regulations].

"RBR therefore contend such systems are in breach of the 2012 F1 Technical Regulations and seek your opinion on the matter."

If you read between the lines, one conclusion could be that they sought clarity that such a system could be deemed illegal after their own system was deemed illegal.

Ok, it's a long shot, but it makes for interesting reading lol.

On another note, Maldonado reckons he's going to attack. Alonso beware!

Vettel stopping on track after qualifying....how can it be fuel related as I thought the cars were fueled up for the race for Q3??

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_Formula_One_season#Round_5_.E2.80.94_Spain

2012 Spanish GP said:
Hamilton was later excluded from the qualifying results after his car did not have enough fuel to return to the pits for scrutineering, promoting Maldonado to pole position[209] and moving Hamilton to the back of the grid.

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/103994
Both Red Bull and engine supplier Renault were silent on Saturday about the exact reasons for Vettel stopping, but the stewards demanded that representatives from both companies explain what happened.

At the Spanish GP earlier this year, Lewis Hamilton was stripped of his pole position and thrown to the back of the grid after he was told to stop on the in-lap to ensure that he had enough fuel on board for the sample.
Conspiracy theorists could be forgiven for believing someoene is playing chess with the teams in aid of a closer season finale.

Latest on Vettel...appears to be a fuel pressure problem and not lack of fuel.

Edit:Vettel starts from back of grid..no reason yet

Yea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now alonso must push, take this title to the wire!!!!!!!! Vettelw will struggle to get into the points now. Cannot forsee him getting higher than 8th if he is lucky. Alsono needs a podium or better.

Best news of the day.

I think they there should be a rule in place, something along the lines of you need to make it back to the pits and submit your L sample, if you fail to do so disqualified. Race and quali.

This BS of under fueling a car and stopping after the finish is stupid.

As in my previous post are the cars not fueled up for the race for Q3 or do they only fuel up before the race?

It's going to be a rather boring race, we can only hope hamilton's pace is one lap pace. I hope it won't be like redbull, pole then cruise to victory.

I know mclaren have had pole plenty this season and failed to convert it to wins on many occasions.
