F1 2013 thread

Oh well, Vettel threw a golden opportunity away in those last few corners, but to his credit, those tyres were falling off. They should have put him on those tyres one lap earlier. They should have known that the Merc's tyres would have been older and couldnt come back at him. He could have challenged Kimi too.

Kimi drove a stunner too.

Stunning race. Alonso was untouchable. Kimi was super smooth as usual. Well done to Hamilton for making the tires last. Vettel almost made it work for a podium.

Wow what a finish, if they only they had brought vettel in one lap earlier.

Epic stuff. Thought the mercedes would not have the race pace. Alonso and kim absolutely awesome drives and vettel was not bad i doubt he had the car to do better than 4th today anyways but what a finish

O and webber LOL, what was he thinking. He was right there in the mix even though he started from pitlane and made a stop he right up with kimi and hamilton. What on earth happened to massa who was pushing alonso and trying to over take him in the beginning. Geez.

Could by any chance Ferrari ****ing Massa. i mean at one point its was a 1 2 for Ferrari before any pit stop but Massa finished 6th and Alonso won. Is the best strategy used on Alonso and Massa gets the backup strategy. My suspicions are not confined to Chinese Grand Prix but also Australian Grand Prix. Alonso was 5th on the grid and Massa 4th but Alonso came 2nd and Massa 4th but the way they pit its like its focused on Alonso to win. I m saying this because i think Massa has driven well this season and hasnt made a mistake.

If Massa wants to win races and even challenge for the title, then he must leave Ferrari. They are obviously focusing on Alonso.

Aaah, see that, just as well, we dont need stewards meddling with results.

i failed to win R14 250 because Hamilton was beaten by Raikkonen. Out of 14 legs its the only one that took me out

Not really, the guy who is leading gets the first stop, that was alonso. That is how all the teams work i think. the leading car is the one who gets pitted first. Now if alonso got first pitstop and massa was ahead i would agree but ferrari are also very focused on winning the title and want both drivers to do well. They should perhaps have stacked their cars.

i nearly won but Lewis was held up by the trailing cars if it werent for that he could have finished 2nd

He had no chance of finishing second when he came out behind kimi. Kimi was managing his tires well while hamilton was destroying them chasing kimi and it almost cost him a podium but good on him for trying. Actually he also got a bit lucky with the traffic at the end because it gave him drs down the last straight that vettel could have nailed him, without those back markers i think hamilton might have finished behind vettel.

I could be wrong but i am sure his drs was operating down that long straight while he was getting past two back markers.

I reckon Hamilton may have challenged Kimi, but I think Kimi would have been able to come right back at him. If Kimi was behind, he would have had a similar issue with tyres I think. Regardless, Kimi came second and Hamilton third. Both had pretty decent drives considering the race. Couldn't believe how Alonso got so much out of that Ferrari though, I'm almost inclined to think he has some special upgrade that Massa may now run from next race. Hard to believe Massa was so far from him... he was just that much quicker than the rest of the field... on heavy fuel and none.

Naaa massa was left out a lap longer, they were doing 45's while the other guys were doing low 41's and 40. So one lap depending on the shape of his tires could have cost him 4-6 seconds.

Look at vettel he pulled back 13 seconds in 3 laps.

I disagree. Ferrari rarely give equal opportunity since the Prost-Mansell fiasco. The closest they've come to equality was Berger-Alesi and Raikkonen-Massa. Alonso, much like Michael, is their #1. Just remember back to the Aussie GP where Massa was in front of Alonso but they brought Alonso in first. Massa had a heart attack over the radio, screaming about how slow he was due to staying out on shot tyres.

Yup but massa has not really proven to be a match for alonso or am i mistaken? While i agree with you i think last year massa was just shocking while alonso challenged for the championships and got most of the points for ferrari.

Until massa proves he can run with the top dog he will be the number 2 driver. Massa could not have won in the style alonso did yesterday. He could barely get past the force india in a ferrari that was looking unbeatable with alonso driving it. It was the same when michael drove for them, barrechello just could not even come close to matching him.

on twitter Massa also said he dindn tknow why he wasnt fast. That gives me the impression that Alonso gets all the good setup while Massa is given "unknown" setup. I love Ferrari but i was kind of happy when Alonso Crashed in Malaysia because it meant Massa was going to be the main focus. I think to win the championship both drivers must be treated equally.

I m starting to dislike Alonso.

I don't think Massa is a match for Alonso and hence why Ferrari have kept him even though he's had an abortion of a time since his title push in 2008. He was battling with Kimi in that dog of a car in 2009, then got hurt and absolutely sucked over the last 3 seasons, only looking competitive towards the end of 2012. He's there because he is no threat to Fernando and thus he will forever play second fiddle/be used as the guinea pig.

Irvine and Barrichello were signed because they were good enough and fast enough to bring the points home and because they lacked the outright ability of a world champion and were thus no threat to Michael.

I doubt ferrari would want to lose a championship in favour of alonso winning one. I also highly doubt both drivers are told what setups to use and i doubt both drivers have the same engineer dictating their races.

So i can;t logically see why ferrari would want alonso as champion over the car as champion. I would imagine they would give massa everything they can to help him finish high up in the points. Massa has proven that he simply does not have that magic he had when he almost beat hamilton to the championship. That head injury i think took something away from massa but he is slowly getting it back by the look of things.
