So if you were on a months holiday and work phoned and told you there was a ceremony giving everyone who’d won something a certificate you’d break your holiday and attend or tell them to feck off?

This wasn't planned one day before it happened, it was probably planned well ahead.

Why in the hell were Nico Rosberg, Jenson Button and Jacques Villeneuve inducted?

Nico had 3 great seasons in a car that was untouchable. Jolyon Palmer would've won a race or two in a Mercedes.

Button was a good driver, a dependable pair of hands, but there was never anything truly special about him. He was always more than a match for his teammates, yes, but he doesn't stand out as a great. When you speak of British drivers there are a lot more names that would be thrown out before him.

Villeneuve was nothing after his two-year stint at Williams in what was the class of the field. The only teammates he ever beat were Heinz-Harald Frentzen and Olivier Panis. Hill, Button, Massa and Heidfeld all beat him. The latter three being much younger and vastly less experienced yet they cleaned him out.

Winning a championship shouldn't be a criteria to get in. Over the course of their careers, guys like David Coulthard, Rubens Barrichello and Felipe Massa were, in my opinion, far better than Jacques. They had longer, more productive careers and were actually worth their weight when they no longer had access to the best machinery. Button is honestly Barrichello/Coulthard with a championship.

Don't blame Lewis for not going, because it looks like everyone got a gold star on their foreheads.

So Kubica returning is looking a little less likely.

Sergey Sirotkin has emerged as the favourite to drive for Williams in 2018, with Robert Kubica no longer in the frame, Autosport has learned.

Williams has spent the last week evaluating data gathering from the Abu Dhabi Pirelli test at Yas Marina, where it ran Sirotkin and Kubica.

Kubica had been favourite to make a sensational return to F1, with the team impressed by his feedback and the way he fitted into the team and built up strong relationships.

However, it has emerged that based purely on performance, data suggests Sirotkin is the stronger candidate.

Williams has insisted throughout the process that its decision on the driver to partner Lance Stroll next season will be based on performance.

Talks with the 22-year-old Russian, who has performed reserve duties for Renault this year, are now at an advanced stage.

However, it is believed there are several details still to be ironed out before the final contract is signed.

It is believed Sirotkin brings substantial backing with him - understood to be in the region of £15million - from Russia's SMP Racing, which was founded by Boris Rotenberg, who controls SMP Bank.
