F1 2013 thread

I really feel that Bernie Ecclestone are ruining formula 1. The focus is solely on tyres these days. Having said that, I dont think they are doing their company image much good.

FTFY
Tyre manufactures will always try and make tyres to last and be safe. He wanted the tyres to degrade to such an extend that the drivers have to stop often do F1 can be as exciting as it was in the 90's - he fscked it up with the ridiculous rules he implemented over the years. If it was any other tyre manufacturer, something similar would have happened. Don't blame Pirelli - they just do what douche bag Bernie tells then to do. For years they make brilliant tyres. Now they must change the quality formula to a degrading formula. That is like going backward in technology and progress.

Lets try an understand this tyre thing at present....

- Last GP, they did not test the "new tyres" due to weather conditions and also Pirelli had said they sorted out the delamination issue with the their bonding/curing process...

- This weekend they tested a "new tyre" during the free practice sessions.

Are they changing them or not?

So they used right hand tyres on the left sides... and that was a common denominator. Wow, I was not aware that each tyre was specifically made for a particular side only... I also read on F1.com that in Germany the tyres will have Kevlar reinforced sidewalls.

Yeah... After a quick Google, I saw that too. Sorry

No need for that. :D It's just that when you said it I recalled that the major US racing series' (NASCAR, NHRA, IRL, CART, IndyCar) have almost always been supplied by Firestone or Goodyear, good 'ol 'Merican rubber. :D

The dying Champ Car series used Bridgestone in its latter years though. Although technically Firestone/Bridgestone is one in the same as Bridgestone bought Firestone in 1988.

That was a good race, good win for Seb, but the Lotus boys kept him honest.
Shame about the poor camera man, who had a personal meeting with Webber's rear right tire.

Was hoping for a bit more red bull troubles in the final laps :D But what a race! This has been one of the best seasons for some time.

Damn, that was a bad hit. Luckily the guy survived.

I think helped him survive is he never saw it coming, and it never hit him in the face.

Very lucky indeed.

That's so true, guess that is going to change very soon.

And is it just me or is Weber the unluckiest guy in F1

Surely they used to say that any Button? I think is was true for the most of his career even after success. Weber's certainly is full of incident and turnarounds but not as heartbreakingly spectacular.

F1 needs to get rid of the fecken red bulls

Boring as ****e....

Or Adrian Newey shoud be rotted to a different team each year.

Lotus was on Par and maybe a little bit faster than the RB in Germany. Tyre change strategy was a little off for lotus, & Kimi not being able to communicate to the pit was a big problem. He would have continued on the harder tyres and not put the softs on if they had been able to communicate. So the outcome could have been quite different. Also hot race tracks suite the Lotus better, which RB seems to struggle a bit with. I think we are in for a pretty good 2nd half of the season.

As for next year, I'm in two minds for where Kimi should go... I like the Lotus team, follow them on twitter and you will see, they are a fun bunch. I'm sure they will convince Kimi to stay, I almost hope they do. I have long lost my RB fanaticism. Becoming another Schumi / Ferrari era .. blehh. I prefer the advent of a new team upfront.

Also .. been thinking about next years engines... I think Renault will have a little better edge on the turbo technology. Mercedes typically supercharges, and does not use turbos on road vehicles. Ferrari have some turbo experience, but Lotus using Renault and the lower teams using Cosworth have some good Turbo experience... Cant wait for the new engines!
