Bottas did a better

1m26.322s

The switch from Renault to Merc seems positive.....so far.

Another second has been skimmed from that time now. Things are quickening up and the times are tightening among the top group which is a good sign...

Yes, def a good sign.

Impressed with the Williams pace. Massa will get the best out of that car, I think the move to Williams was better than getting stale at Ferrari, even if he had the option to stay. Maybe not for his pocket though.

Maybe, maybe one would be able to draw some tentative conclusions from the times on the last day of testing in Bahrain at the end of next month. The Jerez times are largely meaningless. From what I read the cars were still running between 3,000 and 5,000 rpm below the limit yesterday.

Granted, I'll go with that, but made my heart skip nonetheless.

I love F1.

Half the field could retire from F1 2014 opener - Christian Horner

Formula 1 could experience a retirement rate of 50 per cent in the 2014 season-opening Australian Grand Prix, reckons Red Bull boss Christian Horner.

With teams under no illusions that reliability is going to be a key factor in 2014, Horner believes that the dropout rate could be pretty extreme early on.

F1 designers are facing the biggest change in regulations in recent history, and none are expecting it to be easy to get the new 1.6-litre turbo V6 powerunits up and running trouble free straight away.

To further add to the technology complications, drivers are also limited to just 100kg of fuel for a grand prix, which could prove tough to manage in Melbourne, one of the highest fuel-consumption tracks of the season.

Speaking to Bloomberg TV on Wednesday, Horner has suggested that the situation could be pretty dramatic in Australia on March 16.

"I think you could see a very high retirement rate, maybe even 50 per cent in the first race," he said.

"Petrol is a challenge this year because we are limited to 100 kg of fuel to start the grand prix with, but more reliability issues in the early races will be a key factor.

"And of course we only have five engines for the whole year."

Incredible... Today Rosberg did 9 laps short of the entire grid yesterday. The guy's a machine. 84 laps!

I'd take his opinion with a pinch of salt, considering where it's coming from at the moment. He's trying to pass blame for Red Bull's early problems on the regulations. His prediction doesn't seem all that likely at the moment...

Ja, I felt the same. A bit of sour grapes at being shaken up perhpas, or just perhaps preparing fans and sponsors for the worst.

Agreed, Horner just blowing dust.

The 100l does worry me a bit though. If there is a crash and the safety car must circle for 20 laps then we could potentially see a red flag as nobody would be geared for refuelling and not sure of the remaining fuel would last.

Saftey car usually gives them extra fuel laps as they can go into fuel saving mode, but I hate the thought of the race pace slowing down artificially to save fuel. That's just not racing.

Ok you're right there.

Day three continues today, curious how if the times will tipp again. Methinks they will.

I just hope Redbull don't get their stuff together lol. Hate to say it, but it's about time Vettel gets a rubbish car to drive lol.

After what I am reading about the new front wing designs and how complex the engines have become plus the 1st practise session going wrong for so many people, its either going to be a crazy year of non-finishes or an awesome year for a team that gets it right early
