Bruno Senna is out on the opening lap. Ho Pin Tung's race is over and so is Trulli's. Grief - sounds like a scalextric race. You can actually hear the crowds.

What I will say is that the cars are very similar and good driving is rewarded over a faster car by the looks. I see some people running way more rear wing than others - Nico Prost looks like he's running a lot of rear wing. Not sure, but perhaps the wings are adjustable....

I do NOT like the Beijing circuit. Typical congested street circuit.

AAAND Sato is out at turn 1.

Very close racing up front.

Pitstops are hilarious!
Pull in to the pits, jump out and jump in to the replacement vehicle (with fresh battery), team helps to get you strapped in... and I think there's some time window you have to abide by.

Sam Bird's car is pretty cool - love the silver lol.

Yes, agree 100%
Sorry for not mentioning that. I guess I take it for granted that everyone has one...
5 laps to go and there's a challenge for the lead - Prost has driven like a pro all race long, but he's being reeled in nicely now by the next 3.

8.7 seconds the gap between first and 7th!
Nick Heidfeld in the Venturi (Di Caprio's team) in second are threatening to take Prost's lead away.

@Grouter - am I mistaken, or can I see movement on the front wing / rear wing occasionally during the race - Nico Prost's car is easier to see it on with the yellow elements at the front. Nice to see Alain Prost's face on the pit wall.

Wow... Nico Prost was in a league of his own... Heidfeld closing on the final corner!
OMW!!! ACCIDENT ON THE FINAL CORNER!
Heidfeld is on his head... crikey - he climbs out OK and heads over to Prost for a bit of fistycuffs.

No way! Talk about a bummer for Prost, he was the fastest the whole race long but turned into Heidfeld at the end and it ended in tears for both. Prost did an incredible job of almost taking him on the last lap.

Not sure if Prost couldn't see him... the shots from Prost's POV indicate that he didn't see him, but he should have seen him in his mirrors.

Are we watching the Prost/Senna of Formula E? The conspiracy theorist in me says that was a setup lol.. too perfect... last lap incident. I thought Heidfeld was hurt at first... evidently those roll bars are good.

Not a bad race. Lack of noise not an issue for me. @Arietans: Not exactly HD on a web stream, so, no, didn't notice wings flapping!

Prodromou vows 'new chapter' at McLaren

Peter Prodromou has officially started his second stint at Mclaren as chief engineer with the promise of doing everything he can to return the team to past glories.

Prodromou, who played a key role in Red Bull's recent dominance of the sport, worked for McLaren between 1991 and 2006, during which time it won two constructors' titles and four drivers' championships. McLaren announced on Monday he had started his new job with the team, ending a protracted move from Red Bull which was originally due to start in 2015.

The early start was announced by Ron Dennis in June, believed to be part of a deal over aerodynamicist Dan Fallows, who was due to move to McLaren but will now remain at Red Bull.

"It's fantastic to return to McLaren, and to see a mixture of faces old and new," Prodromou said. "Of course, I have first-hand experience of just what a passionate, focused and capable race team exists within these walls, and I've already seen the enthusiasm and positivity that exists to return McLaren to world championship-winning glory. I, too, am determined to work flat-out to do everything I can to help initiate a new chapter of success in McLaren's history."

McLaren's chief operating officer Jonathan Neale says the appointment shows the team is serious about returning to winning ways, with its last victory coming at the 2012 Brazilian Grand Prix.

"I'm delighted to welcome Peter back to McLaren," Neale said. "He joins us at an extremely exciting time: we're making exciting progress with our new engine partner, and our entire design department has been galvanised and motivated by an ongoing restructure that has really begun to bed-in and deliver results.

"His position as chief engineer will enable him to play to his considerable strengths as a top-flight aerodynamicist and an engineer, and I'm sure he'll dovetail seamlessly with his fellow engineers. We're steadily putting everything in place to ensure that McLaren can once again return to its race- and world championship-winning ways.

"We're under no illusions that we're yet there, but Peter's appointment is a very significant one, and is also a very public reminder that we're adding strength in depth to our organisation all the time."

Great news, lets hope he can deliver.

They better arrest the slide quickly as Williams is a testament to how fast and far a giant can fall. I suppose McLaren's saving grace has been their works engine deals with Mercedes and now Honda. Williams had to go the customer route or use a 2nd/3rd tier engine (Cosworth) during their decline.

So apparently this new bloke at Ferrari (Marchionne, or whatever his name is) has a habit of turning ailing businesses around. So hang in there Ferrari fans. The Scarlets will be back at the front soon :)

That may be true. However we know in F1 there are no quick fixes. It may be a few years before they return to early 2K pace.

That is exactly what di Montezemolo did twenty-odd years ago. But yeah, a complete restructuring is needed.

FIA clarifies radio clampdown rules

The FIA has elaborated on what is and is not permitted under the rules of its latest clampdown surrounding radio communications - and confirmed it extends to pit boards too.

On Monday the FIA issued a lengthy follow-up to the technical directive sent to teams last week, highlighting what can and cannot be said over the radio under the new rules either through pit boards or radio communications. It also stressed "any message that appears to be coded" will be specifically targeted.

Some rules will not be enforced until the Japanese Grand Prix in the interest of safety, to give teams the chance to get new fail-safe systems in place. Mercedes chief Toto Wolff has already predicted controversy around the new rules, though teams are expected to meet with the FIA in Singapore to discuss the changes further and clear up any grey areas.
