Mercedes unveils WO5 in Jerez

Mercedes has launched its 2014 car, WO5, at the Jerez circuit ahead of the first day of pre-season testing.

Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton, who renew their partnership for the second year, pulled the covers off in the Jerez pitlane on Tuesday morning. Mercedes finished a distant second to Red Bull in the constructors' championship last season and will hope the WO5 can sustain a title challenge under the new regulations in 2014.

The car retains its usual silver livery, with a striking green on both sidepods as part of the sponsorship with Petronas.

Nice, ok I suppose, looks a bit like a can opener.

Red Bull has taken the wraps of the RB10 car, its 2014 challenger it hopes will contend for a fourth consecutive drivers' and constructors' championship.

Reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel and new partner Daniel Ricciardo pulled the covers off in the Jerez pitlane ahead of the first morning of pre-season testing. Vettel has won four championships in a row and in 2014 will look to emulate the feat of fellow countryman Michael Schumacher in winning five straight titles.

More to follow…

Not that bad looking. Will surly miss the V8 cars though.

Oh, good lord... so this is why Force India's initial image was a side-on view.

Article here.

Merc looks good in a brutish sort of way. But then I liked the walrus-nosed Williams back in the day.

That Force India as a lot more white on it now that I see it from that angle... liking it a bit less :)

I'm still checking it out and wondering if I like it or not. Now to see the cars side by side :)
Those sidepods don't look that big from this pic, but good grief, look at that front wing for complicated!
It always amazes (or amuses) me to see how often someone loses a chunk of front wing without much affect to their overall pace.

Yes, there definitely seems to be major focus on the nose of the car, esp the front wing.

Almost seems like there is more aerodynamics on the nose than the car itself.

Does anyone have the Jerez timesheets ?

Or a link to live timing at least ?

Hmm... nice!

Apparently Ferrari chose the more conservative of the two choices they had....

Ugh. Even for the product of some delusional 16-year old 'designer' wannabe that is truly horrific. It's also a year old image, by the by.

Yes, I can see it coming up behind you for an overtake manoeuvre and then sucking up the car.

09:43 We're on maths duty in the media centre...we've established, through complex algorithms, that we're currently on around two laps per hour at Jerez.

Nothing like an exciting start to the new season. :D

All the teams are clearly easing into some seriously uncharted waters.

Someone is talking porkies if they're saying that was an alternative to this years design, from what I can see it pretty much breaks ever regulation that it can.
