F1 2014 thread

what are you talking about? Its the engine not him. Mercedes engine is the best @ the momen. If williams were not using merc engine or force india still using ferrari they wld be struggling. Massa will never be what he was in '07 and '8. He is done. Put alonso and kimi in a force india or even williams , they can finish 1 , 2.

Yes, the Mercedes is fast, but have you not paid attention to the ''feud'' between he and Bottas? The ferocious way he has fought and his refusal to go back to his puppy-dog ways at Ferrarri and cede position. He may never contend for a title again but he is showing the most fight I have seen in 6-years. Bottas is also a highly-rated driver and Massa is taking it to him.

Not too mention the schit that he got up to at Renault (who else ever organised their team mate to crash to get an advantage?)

Alonso had nothing to do with 'Crashgate'. That was Briatore & Symonds' doing. If you want to finger a driver finger Nelson Piquet Jr. He was the one that willingly went along knowing full-well what he was doing.

Yeah, I'm not sure Alonso did any more than capitalise on it (likely unknowingly). He was also the recipient of more than one Schumi interference if I recall correctly... the most obvious being Schumi's parking sideways on the hairpin during quali at Monaco. I always say - rather a fiery driver who loses trying than cool calm and collected 3rd place.

Didn't he win that race ? Cannot recall but I think so.

If he did he had everything to do with it.

Do you honestly believe everyone except the recipient of the misdeed knew? It is obvious that Alonso knew. They don't call him Teflonso for nothing. He reminds me of our President.

Alonso probably found out after the race. I don't see how he could have plotted all that from inside the car.

On 28 September 2008, on the fourteenth lap of the Singapore race, the Renault R28 driven by Piquet crashed into the circuit wall at turn seventeen, necessitating a safety car deployment. This allowed the other Renault driver, Fernando Alonso, to make an early pitstop and subsequently gain the advantage to win the race after starting 15th on the grid. Piquet described his crash at the time as a simple mistake.

From the Wiki page on the crash controversy.

A bit too close to home if you ask me.

He won the race, yes, but he did not engineer the result by telling Piquet to park it in the wall.

The FIA cleared him of any wrong doing.

Yeah, OJ Simpson was also cleared of any wrong doing. Just because he was a cleared doesn't mean he had no knowledge of the plot.
Anyway, the man has too much baggage.

They cleared him because there was no proof that he was a part of it. That's called benefit of the doubt. It's a big part of modern civilized society. Curious if anyone here disagrees with that principle.
The whole team got away with too much regarding that incident, but I'm not convinced Alonso was part of it - remember, it was probably plotted and hatched during the race at some point.

FIA addressing noise issue

FIA president Jean Todt says plans are already underway with engine manufacturers to make the current crop of Formula One cars louder.

The new breed of turbo-charged F1 cars have been criticised this year for being too quiet compared to the high-revving V8s that were scrapped at the end of last year. World champion Sebastian Vettel has been among the most vocal opponents to the new power units, describing the sound as "****" in Malaysia, while Bernie Ecclestone has also called for changes. But Todt believes the volume can be turned up on the new engines without major changes to the regulations and says the governing body is working with the manufacturers to create a sound that is more appealing to fans.

"It would be wrong to say I don't care about all the complaints, so definitely it is something that we are addressing already with all the manufacturers involve in Formula One," he said. "[We are working] with Ferrari, Mercedes and Renault to address this thing even with the new regulations that we have.

It also cost Piquet his racing career.

I'm with Martin Brundle when it comes to Piquet;

"Piquet didn't deliver at Renault, he wasn't fast enough, that's why he was released and that's why he has dropped hand grenades into the system ever since." - Martin Brundle

"So, crashing deliberately in the first place, as he claims, and then lobbing this nuclear bomb into the paddock is not impressive to say the least; they've cut off their noses to spite their face because surely Nelson Piquet Jr is unemployable in F1 now. Which team and sponsor wants to be associated with all this? Anger has got the better of them here. F1, though, will survive it and move on." - Martin Brundle

Yes, and sadly with it some of the family name reputation.

Nelson was a great racing driver.

So are they going to change the sound of the engines just for the sake of it? Ridiculous.

I don't like the new sound either, but that is how the car sounds...ffs.

initiated by Ecclestone no doubt. He had a massive problem with the sound after attending the first race in Australia and mentioned that he is going to do something about it.

It's not just for the sake of it. The sex-appeal of a proper F1 engine is a huge crowd draw. At the moment they sound like asthmatic 2-bit crack whores, whereas previously they sounded like Cerberus (the hellhound, not the poster) after you've poked his balls with a molten shark. It's a big issue.
