F1 2014 thread

Or in this case, one person is willing to be the sacrificial lamb and take all the blame, it wouldn't be in the interest of the sport to dig any deeper...

As I was saying, everyone is going to have their OPINION.

A three second gap between Merc and the rest of the guys, this is just ridiculous.

And I am convinced Ross had lots to do with this. They must have given him a nice handshake.

It's an all out Merc domination this year. Ultimately Hamilton and Rossberg will battle it out.

As for Fernando, I think he should find another team. Maybe Williams

I wouldn't write Ferrari off that quick, they have too much great history behind them. Although a world champion does want a winning car and nothing less.

I would not be surprised if Merc let Rosberg go and hire Alonso next year.

Williams wouldn't be able to afford his salary.

Not this year for Ferrari

Williams wouldn't be able to afford his salary.
:D maybe so.
What's his name, I forgot now, who helped Alonso back in 2005 to win the championship is with Williams. Maybe that reunion could help him

These times aren't representative of pace at all. To some extent it may be but it's certainly not a clear representation of outright pace. McLaren, Ferrari and Red Bull, as far as I know were performing aero tests and testing setups and lots of other components. Mercedes were also doing aero testing but they concentrated more on setup. Rosberg, yesterday had two long runs out on track. The only other team that did long runs were Sauber.

There's no doubt that they[Mercedes] have the fastest package at the moment and in outright pace they are about 1.5s-2s a lap quicker than the rest of the field.

And this in F1 times is huge, way too much, this you don't just catch up that quickly.

Formula E tests open to public for free

The FIA Formula E Championship has confirmed that all of its official pre-season tests will be held at Donington Park with free admission to fans.

Beginning on July 3, the 10 Formula E teams will be given five full test days with every one open to the public free of charge, allowing fans who pre-register via the Donington Park website unprecedented access to see and hear the 200kw (270bhp) Spark-Renault SRT_01E single-seaters in action.

The remaining tests at the Leicestershire circuit will take place on July 4, 9 and 10 with the final session on August 19 - three weeks before the season opener in Beijing on September 13. Teams will also have two in-season and two post-season test days with private testing strictly prohibited.

In addition to hosting all test days, Donington Park will also shortly become the new home for Formula E and its teams as construction work on its bespoke 44,000 ft2 premises nears completion. The state-of-the-art headquarters - catering for more than 150 staff, engineers and team personnel - are due to open in early May with the first car deliveries arriving in mid-May.

3D animation of the Mercedes power unit

Its the power unit which has won the opening three races of the season and looks set to win many more... the Mercedes PU106A

In this 3D video we are shown in detail how the Hybrid V6 turbo engine works and introduces tailor-made fluid technology that seems to reverse the laws of physics.

So it runs during F1 off season? September start if I recall. That would be uber cool :)

Their calendar is a bit different. Runs from Oct till June so overlaps the F1 a bit, but Formula E has pretty much a race per month only. But still very cool.

FIA could consider double points rethink

FIA president Jean Todt has hinted at a possible rethink of the double-points championship finale at the end of the year, but confirmed teams did not unanimously oppose its implementation during the F1 Strategy Group meeting.

The plan for the Abu Dhabi race on November 23 has been met with an overwhelmingly negative response from fans, as well as current and former drivers and personnel. But despite the outcry it will go ahead for this season at the very least after the six teams in F1's policy-making group failed to unite against the plans, meaning the FIA did not see the need to pursue a change.

Despite this Todt, who is personally in favour of the idea, has acknowledged fan discontent with the plan and has hinted the FIA will reconsider its stance if the idea remains unpopular after this season's finale.

So, in other words, Red Bull and Ferrari hope to improve their performance in the second half of the season and the double points will be to their benefit, so they don't want to oppose the plan.

I think the only team to oppose the plan will be the team who will be on top.

For anyone else its a huge chance to effect the rankings, team and driver. Its a bit of a chancy rule but may just result in that chase to the finish.
