F1 2014 thread

Sky F1 is the best broadcaster, it also adds to the experience hearing martin brundle comentate almost gives me the jitters like Murray walker used to. Supersport broadcasts the BBC's version. Would love to be able to get sky here.

To that there is no question.

Sky's coverage is superior in every respect.

Full coverage of FP1, FP2, Friday evening The F1 Show, FP3, Quali build-up, Quali, Race build-up, Race, Post Race, and then the occasional Ted's Notebook thrown in.

I have given up on MonoSport long ago, I would rather watch a delayed transmission of all of the above, in glorious 60 fps 720p and 5.1. Then of course stay away from spoilers until the cap goes up, typically about 6 hours after the event, plus your download time, then you are good to go :)

I couldn't be happier, and will never go back.

In comparison to everything else in F1 tyre warmers seem so small and trivial, can they really cost so much ?

Seems a bit silly, but then again so do many FIA rulings and actions.

It is totally bogus. Tire blankets is anyway on the lower end of the scale.

Found NTV They have an interesting package for about R210 for 30 days which includes all the sky channels and it can be viewed both via web or xmbc plugin. Just looking for more feedback before taking the plunge myself.

Its f1 weekend baaabbbyyy! It all starts off with the drivers conference at 15:00!

This is where I lose all sense in exchange for a passion. Where I feel I could leave my day job to go wash F1 wheels.

If only our idiotic sporting minister would do something about racing here. F1 wouldn't think twice about racing in africa.

I've heard via someone on the Supersport camera crew that a race track is being built somewhere in the WC - Franschoek if I'm not mistaken. Supposedly old SA money is involved (don't recall the names, but possibly Oppenheimer / De Beer).

Yeah these type of stories resurface every now and again but in reality I don't ever see anything coming off it. Sadly.

+1 There was talk of a CT track a few years back but it was simply shrugged off by the minister of sport at the time. They would rather build a bunch of soccer stadiums for use in 1 world cup than a good F1 track that can make a revenue every year. Typical SA political common sense.

I'm keen to know who makes money off F1 other than Bernie!

Alonso throwing the Ferrari around the track like the wife on a wedding night.

Doesn't help.

Mercs are on top, again. Albeit a smaller advantage, but that can grow. Red Bull have narrowed the gap somewhat.

Adrian Newey rejects Ferrari overtures

Adrian Newey has rejected overtures to move to Ferrari, saying he remains "committed to Red Bull for the foreseeable future".

There had been speculation that Newey, who is Red Bull's chief technical officer, was being lined up by Ferrari to try to turn round its fortunes, with reports suggesting it was prepared to pay up to £20 million a year to bring him on board. Ferrari has not won a grand prix in over a year and are already a long way behind Mercedes in this year's constructors' championship even if they are a close third to Red Bull.

The rumour mill gathered pace last week when Newey said: "There's always rumours … what can I say? It's the silly season. We're all under contract, so at some point I've got to think about the future but my focus at the moment is trying to get back on top of those silver cars."

At the same time several newspapers carried suggestions that Newey, 55, was looking for one last challenge to crown a remarkable career which has included championships with Williams, McLaren and Red Bull.

Red Bull forced to change camera slot

Red Bull have had to change the design of the front camera pods on its RB10 from this weekend's Monaco Grand Prix onwards following clarification from the FIA.

Since the opening race of the season Red Bull has run the mandatory front-facing camera inside the nose of the car, rather than externally as all the other teams do. Red Bull argued the rules do not state that cameras have to be positioned on the outside of the car.

Positioning the camera inside the nose delivered a small aerodynamic benefit as it caused less interference with the airflow, and initially the team was allowed to stick with its interpretation for the first five races.

A small tweak was necessary in Spain, with the camera jutting out of the nose slightly so the camera lens could be in view, before the FIA stepped in ahead of the race at Monaco. The FIA cites Article 20.3.4 of its technical regulations, which states that cameras must lie within a box formed by "two vertical lines 150mm and 450mm forward of the front wheel centre line and two horizontal lines 325mm and 525mm above the reference plane."
