F1 2014 thread

Williams not doing particularly well here, neither Force India.

We'll see more in FP3 and quali.

My McLarens looking better, in the top 7

Wow... what a race so far!
Ricciardo having to work hard and Hamilton racing incredibly hard... just a pity he doesn't know what that magic setting is lol.

It's only when a Merc starts in 20th place that the true pace of the car is seen.

20th to 3rd looking quite effortless (if it wasn't for the Button bump and subsequent early pit stop, it would probably be 20th to 2nd).

I beg to differ. Certainly not effortless and requiring a pretty special strategy. Yes, they are way faster, but that was one special drive by the Ham.

You say you differ, but then say the same thing ;). I'm not downplaying Hamilton's driving, it was exceptional, but as you agree, the Merc is exceptionally fast and isn't used at 100% power through most races. It's only when it's really needed (like starting last) that the power is turned up.

At one stage Hamilton was catching the cars in front of him at 3 seconds a lap (and I recall correctly the bunch included Ferrari, Red Bull, Force India and McLaren).

And he was told you use another button to what we could assume would make the car faster, but he never heard of such a button!

Awesome racing, excellent entertainment.

Well done to Lewis, drove brilliant race despite playing bumper cars a few times. And Bottas, I am really happy for him.

Cnut of the day for me goes to Massa for fukking up our race. Magnussen qualified very well only to be taken out by Massa on first corner and don't tell me he had line. Yes he was aiming at apex but he had full view of Magnussen and still pushed. And didn't even get a penalty, fukk.

Anyway, Williams had great pace

Certainly a combination of car and driver. A nobody would have caught up but not to podium. Whatever my thoughts are on Lewis, he drove a brilliant race.

Nice for Rosberg though. A German driver winning in a German team in Germany.

This is what Michael was aiming for a few years ago but never managed to do, so well done to Nico.

I'm starting to think that Massa is part of the problem and that it is not just the the other people he has been pranging into. Freakin' Maldonado all over again, good points being smeared across the wall. Williams could genuinely be threatening Red Bull for second in the championship instead of just squeaking past Ferrari for third. Without a doubt it is now the second best car on the track.

Different Massa this year, way more aggressive, not a bad thing though as long as he keeps it in check.

I was very supportive of him earlier in the season as he seemed like he was rejuvenated, but now it is getting a little frustrating as a Williams fan. Canada was a guaranteed podium, possibly even a win, and I believe he takes an equal share of the blame in that accident, which if I am honest, I saw coming. Silverstone wasn't his fault and a driver with less experience may have had a bigger shunt in his position. Yesterday, like Canada, I feel he is partly to blame and another glut of points were lost.

Very exciting racing from P2 back. Hamilton had a good drive in a vastly superior car, so not stunned at the result. It should've been another Merc 1/2 but Bottas managed to keep it together, seriously well done to him.

Massa is becoming part of the problem now IMHO.

I agree with this. Instead of dishing out blame he should be looking at his own actions. I was very surprized that the marchalls let this go.
