Yeah, I'm just trying to figure out how they decided on this method.

You mean why do the choose this way instead of counting SAI, HAM and PER for VER such that ultimately he starts 4th?

The FIA doesn't make sense...
Actually it does when you consider that the penalty must be served and if MAX started 4th he would have effectively got a free PU without the 5 place penalty. All of the others have also received their full penalty so the outcome is fair.

The way I read the regs the grid is established with the non-back-of-grid penalties applied and only then are the back of grid penalties applied. They've gone with a different method, but all the teams seem happy which I guess is what counts.

No real surprise there. Porsche, despite the rhetoric, were not seeking a partnership they wanted a controlling interest. Redbull's heritage is as the party team, not the German corporate, that is MB role.
Could be looking at Haas then or even Sauber (Alfa) but I also believe Audi might look at Sauber.

Devries driving for his job... double whammy
De Vries has the drive for next year...watch! Latifi being outqualified by a guy doing it for the first time has ended his chances and I reckon he will effectively be out of F1. MAYBE be demoted to a reserve/test driver.
He really hasn't done himself any favours.

And De Vries missed out on one of the Friday Practice sessions, as his drive only came available in Saturday morning...

Ah I see now. Yeah, the regulations do read like that.

Once the grid has been established in accordance with Article 42.3a), 42.3b) and 42.3c), grid penalties for any driver required to start the race from the back of the grid after incurring a penalty under Article 28.3 will be applied.

Peter Sauber was actually in attendance yesterday for the first time in ages.
Perhaps he was there for talks rather than just a social call.

Pity we couldn't hear him but in all that was a well done ceremony.
The Airforce timing was spot on.

Buxton reckons LeClerc, Verstappen and Alonso in 3rd. That would be awesome!

I don't believe ferrari will have a clean enough day to allow Leclerc to win.
Home track pressure, there will be mistakes made.
