What would f1 be like without Karen Horner complaining about something? It's his natural state...
I would be quieter!

What I don't like is the whole "spirit of the regulations" comment. Its either written in the regulations or its not. Same goes for the "gentlemen's agreements" that get bandied about (eg for overtaking in quali or finishing under SC). It should be written and formalised so there can be no interpretation, especially when there is precedence.

*sigh*...I am not a fan of either team, but F1 has always been about finding ways within the rules to make your car faster than your competitor.
If it works, and it takes the FIA a while to sort the rules out, fine. Merc have that advantage. If it works and the FIA decides there's nothing wrong and the Merc still actually does have sidepods, then Merc have that advantage.

This guy and Toto are eternal complainers. Mute them both and we can just focus on racing please.
 
Look, if it is in fact illegal, then it should be banned. We all want fair racing.

But, there's also a difference between illegal and "why didn't we think of that?"

Hopefully we get clarity soon. I don't know what the regs say regarding this, but I did see a thing about Mercedes having been in contact with the FIA regarding their development of these parts, much like they were with DAS. Can't really see Merc investing a whole bunch of development time into something they know won't pass muster.

It was interesting hearing what Ross Braun had to say about that.
In case you missed it, he basically said that the manufacturer might come up with an idea and implement after the FIA found nothing wrong with it, only for another manufacturer to highlight that idea from another perspective and then it needs to be investigated. End result is that the FIA would either allow it or deny it.

So let's see what happens here. If other manufacturers come out and say something similar, then fine. FIA has a case to listen to.
 
Yea look, with all that's happened recently between Merc and Red Bull, it's a given there will be complaints in both directions.

If Merc came with a completely stock car that was fast, they'd be accused of doing something under the hood. It's just the relationship between those two now. Interested to see how it plays out though.

Look, its always going to be Lulu this, Verbabbel that or Karen this, Tutu that...
Whether this "no" sidepod is within the regs or not, or whether its deemed legit or not, big up to Mercedes for the "innovation" for designing the vertical "no" sidepod thingamajik...

Also, whether it works is another thing... Time will tell...

Ross Brawn has first hand experience... double diffusers. Everyone moaned about their car that won the WC that year yet it's one of F1's most endearing stories. Guy buys failing F1 team for 1 pound, designs something clever, wins the WC with it and sells it to Merc... the rest is history.

So far, they're 1.8 seconds back.
Then again, this is only the second and last testing session they're allowed.
That said, next week they race at the same track so there's probably not enough time to develop it more. I reckon that the teams will be running full race spec on Saturday in preparation for next weekend.

The governing body responded by stating that such a system would not be allowed. It was clear that gaming the fuel flow rate to boost it between the point that measurements were taken would be against the rules."

Please don't come with facts that disrupt the hatetrain, you're going to upset people.
 
That Ferrari is clearly leading the way, but interesting to see the Williams .6 seconds off the pace!
