Could it be that Father Time, the undefeated champion, has caught Hamilton in the late rounds of his career?

Also the mental strain of last season and losing the way he did could've done some ''damage'' as well.

It happens to the best. Schumacher, Rossi, Vettel all succumbed to Father Time. Then Mika Hakkinen, mentally he just lost it.
I doubt it, he's probably lost motivation due to having done it all and now seeing the chances of the cherry on top of the cake (that 8th title) slipping away. I once read a book by Joe Davis, undefeated snooker champion of the world and imho the greatest player ever. He had the mental ability to apply maximum concentration and effort to every single game no matter who the opposition was or what the stakes were, not easy to do, some of the greatest cricketing batsmen like Brian Lara and Tendulka also had this ability. From a F1 point of view the only two drivers I've seen that could do this were Senna and Schumacher.

F1 isn't just a mental game, it is a physically demanding sport.

See Schumacher's comeback. You couldn't fault his motivation and dedication, but the ability just was not there anymore.

This happens to boxers as well, with Sugar Ray Robinson highlighting it in his book. He knew what he wanted to do, he could see the opportunity for a counter-punch or he he could see a punch coming and knew what he need to do in order to avoid it, but the reflexes were just not there anymore. Hence older boxers tend to become more stationary and take more punishment, the body just won't let you do what it done 5-years earlier.

In a sport like F1, if you lose a tenth on your reactions, that's precious time on track and Father Time starts taking those little things from you. Another thing that happens to F1 drivers , and what happened to Hakkinen, is you maybe start second guessing yourself. Would prime, fired-up Hamilton not have taken a risk in trying to pass Gasly? See the ballsy move Russell made on KMag at the chicane whilst Ham just followed Gasly around.

Does he bring the same kind of sponsor money to the table? I recall that the Latifi family is loaded.

Alpine or Renault would put up the money to get the seat and keep the kid from looking to leave Alpine.

The irony is that Williams would then be renting out both of their seats to rival teams.

I think you misunderstood my post. I agree with you on the age thing, I just don't think it's affecting Hamilton...yet, judging by his performance at the beginning of the season he's still just as fast as ever. I'm questioning his motivation.

So by the look of it the new Gen 3 Formula E cars next year are going to be lit! Might actually watch it :D

I am sure if he checks this thread and sees your comment, he's going to wonder (whilst looking at his WDC trophy): I'd love to see this chump, The Jam, go race an F1 car at literally HALF the speed. Then remember he'd had an exceptionally good season and won.

You Hamilton lot (and there's a bunch of Verstappen whiners too on Twitter) are terrible to come across on SM. Crashstappen this; FRAUDmilton that. FFS move on...more to life than trying to throw your insignificant 2c around.

He won, won more races, had a bit more bad luck...move on.
Nah. Reread what you wrote mate. The whinging can stop if you stop whinging. It's in your head and between your ears.

Well wouldn't it? Wouldn't you expect a 20 year olds reflexes to trump a 40 year olds?
That right there must make him the GOAT given he is gave a 20 something year old a good run for his money last year... And RB had the better car.

Can only hope they drop the silly street circuits and start using race tracks... Kyalami for example
Street circuits are a cop out. I'd love to know why they think they help. Maybe the racing is so bad that they have to introduce more crashes.

I looked like a replica, with "ASTON MARTIN" scratched off.

It's a promo shell or replica used to promote the drinks, it was at Makro a while back and recently I believe Canal Walk's checkers.

It's usually unwatched and left in busy areas, so I'd lean towards it being a replica made of plastic?
