It would do well to increase the profile of SA as a legit place to race if he'd come here. On his return to the track he can push some good PR to help it along.

He could even do that thing F1 drivers like to do and have his watch stolen while he's here.

I would have immediately taken a leave day today and drive out for a chance to meet the oke. But no, he goes to fckng Namibia.

You probably would have been wasting your time.
I have seen both Michael Shoemaker and Sebastian Vettel, on separate occasions, on unannounced visits here in Hout Bay. In both cases they had such a large entourage the public had no chance of talking to them.
Personally I was just pleased they were there, it uplifted the standing of the community as a tourist destination, and I respect their need for privacy and to do tourist things as well.

He is carrying more than his fair share of the sponsorship and PR load at Macca. Take him out, put Piastri in and suddenly Lando becomes the main man for the PR stuff... good luck.
I dig Lando but he's been able to concentrate on his driving thanks to DR.

The sport needs DR for PR. He's the most likeable guy on the grid. He doesn't have to be your #1 driver.

Doesn't make sense to me either.

For him to go Nuclear on Twitter had to mean he either has a seat for 2023 OR he wants to exit F1 before entering....
 
My opinion is that twitter link is just BS.
Firstly it does not make sense for him not to drive another year.
Secondly I am sure they said if he had that clause in his contract that expired on 31 July. That clause would have said that if Alpine did not give him a drive before that date, he may sign at another team that GIVE him a drive

There was no real chance of a seat in Alpine next year until Alonso announced his move, but I reckon this deal was on the cards before then already; else he would have found himself on loan to Williams next year. Remember the rumours that Lattifi was on his way out...except then it didn't happen.

I have mixed feelings about the Ricciardo vs Piastri thing. Can't deny Ricciardo isn't delivering if compared to Norris on all metrics with the exception of that 1 GP win but I'm not sure that Piastri would deliver any remarkably better results in the short term as Mclaren's woes are more than just driver related.

Perhaps true, but Ricciardio has been going backwards the last few seasons and there's no reason to believe it is going to get better.

I don't agree with that article painting McLaren as the culprits. End of the day he hasn't been performing close to the level of his team mate and he's been given plenty of grace. A nice smile and a few jokes doesn't bring home the points...

Can't ignore the cost of the driver either. Sure, McLaren won't benefit initially if they have to buy Ricciardo out of his contract, but for subsequent years Piastri will start off a hell of a lot cheaper.

Same could be said of half the paddock and the various personalities. Very rarely does a rookie in a mid-field team deliver better than an experienced driver despite their success in other formulas. I'd much prefer Mclaren poaching an existing F1 driver with equal promise and at least some experience to balance Norris. But it'll be great to see how it all plays out regardless of what Mclaren decide but it would be disaster for Mclaren if whoever they go with doesn't at least perform better than Ricciardo if he's terminated early.

Lando has 76 points, Danny has 19. He is actively losing them the fight against Alpine.

In financial terms, Lando is earning an estimated US$20 million, which equates to US$263,158 per point. Danny is earning an estimated US$15 million, which equates to US$789,474 per point. Only Vettel, Stroll and Latifi have a worse ROI than Danny, and Vettel is retiring whilst the other two are paying to be there.

Danny's first job is to get the results, and he isn't.

Why is Norris rated so highly? Didn't that tortoise Sainz outperform him when they were in the same team?

Sainz has had better performance with the exception of 2021 when they were basically on-par. Norris comes with an entire audience from the gaming side which drives his popularity.

Edit: Most of social media and the younger generation rate him higher than most of Mclaren's drivers despite not ever winning a GP.
