Just remember kids, it's fine to race a Formula 1 car with pins in your broken wrist where you can't hold the steering wheel properly when cornering, just so long as you don't have a nose ring. Nose rings are dangerous, broken wrists are safe.
I thought they legalised nose rings now?

Nope, they're still on the jewellery bandwagon. Lewis got a medical exemption because his nose got infected from taking out it and putting it back in, but they're still going at it. Luckily Lance only has broken wrists so that's still safe because he doesn't need those when driving.

One is medically required and the other is a vanity item. Can you really not see the difference?

Being safe and able to drive your car is medically required. The dude couldn't turn the steering wheel normally after half a practice session, now we must trust him in a race? They should put Drugovich in the car and let Lance heal. That's an actual threat to himself and others. The nose ring is still in for medical reasons, too, as above.

The way I heard it relayed was that the doctor's argued that repeated removal could result in permanent disfigurement. Surely anyone else with a nose ring would qualify for the same medical exemption? Or is this a one-time only for Sir Lewis exemption?

If they were serious about the requirement then the easy solution would be to require him to remove it permanently.

It was a one-time for him I believe, but probably just because he's the only one who has one so nobody else needed it.

Ultimately I think he should just remove it, my point is more on the Lance Stroll driving with broken wrists aspect of this whole thing. Such a farce.

Drivers need to pass medical fitness test. If he passed the test then he should be fine to drive. They don't just let them jump back into the car after an injury. Besides him complaining of pain doesn't mean his wrist is weak.

His wrist is weak. You can see it in the on-board footage and how he's holding the steering wheel. His engineer also told him to take a different line through a corner and his response was, "I can't, my hands" (may not be exact quote).

If he can't finish a practice session, a race is going to wreck him, not to mention additional damage he may be causing by using them.

He could just be taking it easy on them because he knows the race will be more demanding. He is also probably holding the steering wheel like that because it is less painful not because he can't hold it properly.

I'm sure Aston will drop him for tomorrows race if they even suspect he's not going to get points or will risk crashing the car in the opening race. Same with the race officials.

I hope he doesn't retire during the race due to aching wrists, but to be honest 6th in practice with injured wrists is actually mighty impressive. Definitely better than an average 'pay driver.' I think Lance deserves some respect just for that showing.

I'm excited to see what Alonso can do during Qualifying. I think it might be quite impressive. Maybe not pole, but super close to those bulls of red.

I'm also rooting for McLaren with the massive talents of Norris and Piastri (both of whom will do very well in the future), but that team has a very long hill to climb and I highly doubt they will do all that well in this race. Sigh.

Ferrari will be fun to watch as always, but they are trailing the Red Bulls by some distance (AM might even be faster, which is crazy)

Under the best of circumstances Lance can't drive to save his life.

As far as Hamilton's nose ring is concerned, I smell BS.

He'll probably fck up in the race anyway. I'll be surprised if he races in the front and doesn't drive into someone.

I'm trying to figure out why people are obsessing over a driver's nose ring...
Perhaps he is the first F1 driver ever, ho has to have special rules. The rules says no jeelry, and has been there for a long time. Stick to the rules. If it causes infection, and you can afford the best treatment and medication and it is still a problem. Then take the thing out.

So what? Its not going to make a difference in speed or drag or weight.

Medically I doubt it means anything. If anything it might get infected if it keeps getting removed and put back everytime the man gets in and out of a car. Its best left alone.

Let Lewis keep his nose rock. It makes Lewis "Lewis." If it makes a fan or two reel in disgust, "meh"

STR shouldn't be driving in his current state, if he's not able to turn the wheel correctly, then he's a hazard and should sit out.

I think he's being stupid and risking the car, other drivers, his wrist for perm damage for 1 race of ... 24(?).
