Would he go back as a#2 though, esp in such a dominant car
If he was officially #2 or not he would still take the fight to Verstappen.
Aussies do not rollover and play dead, you have to prove your worth to gain their respect.
And until Verstappen achieved that Ricciardo would be pushing him hard.

Perez is probably doing exactly what he has been told to do and Marko is acting as a smoke shield.
We already know that Perez is good in that car and he suddenly dropped off, but why?

Considering that the team started the season under a cloud because of the budget sandal, then hit the field with a car that could out perform anything, I suspect that Horner put on his PR Cap and came up with a plan.

If both drivers had remained dominant It would have continued to look like a car advantage and the smoke from the catering unit would not go away. If, on the other hand, Perez dropped off it would look like the other teams were catching up and it was only Verstappen's skill that were keeping them in the lead and not a technical advantage.

Marko's role is to create a smoke screen and threaten Perez to so that the PR myth gets reinforced by the press.
Maybe I could sell that story to Netflix or Brad pits Filming unit at Silverstone :) :sneaky::D
And this ladies and gentleman is your typical Drive to survive F1 supporter.
We have conspiracy theories. We have smoke screens. Marko the villain, Perez the victim that get threatened and would rather damage his own career for the sake of the catering budget.

Only way Ricciardo will be favoured to win anything by RB is by qualifying 1st and never losing a position from the start of the GP to the end and navigating dodgy pit & pace calls.

Edit: Or Max is no longer in the race for whatever reason.

All of which he has been known to do in the past, even as a RB Driver.
And he already has the respect or the pit crews.

"Heavy rain in Austria overnight and into the morning. If we do get a break in the weather the track will be green. A dry SQ3 will be interesting as only VER and LEC of the race grid top 10 have new softs left, so a lot of other big names will have used tyres:"

"Between 11 to 14mm of rain fell across the circuit in Spielberg from a heavy shower earlier this evening around 9 to 9.30pm... so it's back to green conditions already, irrespective of whatever rain is yet to fall into early Saturday. #F1 #BBCF1 #AUSTRIANGP"

The "Sprint Shootout" should be a different format. Each session should be one warmup and a single push lap per driver in reverse order of the previous days qualifier. Slower drivers then benefit from the track evolution.

Due to the weather conditions, each driver will have an additional set of Intermediate Tyres available

I see them, but then again I think you have to be logged into Twitter to see them
I have never had a Twitter Account but could always see the messages linked here.
Musk must have expanded his paywall again.
If so it will be counter productive as it will become the norm to post screen shots of twitter or not reference twitter posts at all.
It certainly wont encourage me to create a twitter account after all this time of avoiding Social Media.
