Why is everyone so up in arms about the ham penalty? Imho he got off lightly. He lost control of his car briefly and removed another driver from the race.
That's not a racing incident.

It's weird that a 5-place penalty is applied for various infringements during practice or quali, but only 5 seconds for ruining another person's race...

Everyone is looking for hard racing and the conditions do support at least some form of mitigation of penalty.

I'll just add that there needs to be some kind of penalty for causing yellow and red flag incidents - they neutralise and have far greater impact on sessions than many of the instances where the FIA hand out time penalties.

Yes. And what's worse is the commentators would would sit and justify Stroll going out onto a wet track on slicks in quali because he had nothing to lose.

Well 19 other drivers have something to lose when you go straight off the track into the wall, stopping the session and f-ing up everyone's hot laps, tyres and strategies.

It's an easy thing to fix. If you're after the incident you should be allowed to finish your lap. If you're before it you should be allowed another go once it's cleared up...
