I guess the trick they're trying to juggle is getting the same speed while lowering fuel burn? I mean if you think about it, having an ICE power a battery to give you a boost... how much are you really saving?
You do realise these cars have both MGU-K and MGU-H?

I think they are only now slowly getting back to performance where they used to be 6-7 years ago. If you look at most of the circuits lap records, a lot of them are still between 2017-2021.

All of this is way too technical for me and I don't understand half of it. I just like it when the cars go Vroooom and not sound like a mozzie circling my head at night.

the fact that the cars are getting back to the lap records set in the 2017-2021 era is kind of insane.
the engine did not change that much but the cars got much bigger and much heavier. just shows how much they have advanced with the Aero package.

I think next year will be the closest to breaking the records we will see. and then again around 2029 we might get close when the understanding of the new engine regulations and new Aero regulations truly come into affect.

I expect the 2026 cars to be about 6 seconds a lap slower on average for the year.

2026 cars are going to be interesting, potentially very dull. Less powerful ICE, with more of the power moved to the electric system - it'll be a 50/50 split. So when your battery is dead and they have to recharge, they'll be at around 600HP. Bleh. They'll also be heavier with the bigger batteries. And apparently current simulations show that at full acceleration with DRS activated, drivers are spinning out on straights. Kek.

What a mess.

That does sound entertaining though.
It sounds like a lot of fun! But, given they only have something like 20 months to until the cars hit the track, it's a worrying proposition.

Yeah I have read some articles about this too. Even Max has said it looks bad. Overtaking will be even more difficult and cars as slow as F2..

if that was entertaining then Masapin, De Fries and Mic would still have seats in F1. and Latifi would be the most coveted driver of all....

Maldonado in a Ferrari. My life would be complete.

Well there goes a seat for Sainz. Surely it has to be either Merc or RB now for 2025.

we can still hope Sainz gets the seat NEXT to Alonso for an all spanish line up.
but that is like hoping Checko retires so Sainz can get that seat....

but that is basically welcome to Sauber Carlos Sainz IMHO

You forgot the possibility of Sainz to Merc, would be funny if he did and Merc then regain their dominance with the ‘26 car.

I think its going to be Antionelli to Merc for 2026. if Sainz was a real option they would have signed him already.

I would love Sainz and Russel having a 2016 like battle all season in 2026, but I think 2026 he will be at Audi so at most Merc would only sign him for one year and who would take that deal?

Rumours swirling that Sainz has signed for Merc already, on a 1+1 contract.

Another year, no South African GP *deep sigh*
