I am not a Lawyer, so take this with a pinch of salt, but I have been reliably informed that South African Law makes it Illegal to UpLoad Copyrighted material, but downloading content is NOT Illegal. The argument being that it is up to the copyright holder to ensure that the DMCA, or applicable laws in their own jurisdiction, are used to police their own content and its distribution.

However, Using Torrents to download or watch Copyrighted content is Illegal in South Africa because of the way that torrents work. Inorder to download you must also be seeding (Uploading) so you are in breach of the copyright act.

As for DSTV taking down Illegal streaming services in South Africa, on the face of it the clients are not at risk, however, if they are paying a subscription for the service then they could be charged as accomplices for aiding and abetting a criminal act.

The raids over the Last two Days should lead to some interesting Court Cases in the near future and finally give clarity to what is and is not legal in terms of South African copyright Law.

As I understand it in SA, its more about profiting from the activity than the distribution itself. So even torrents are technically not illegal to use in that fashion.

Yes if someone mention iptv, everyone know what they talking about, whether its the correct term or not.
I have never in my life heard someone saying they looking for an iptv service when they referring to Netflix, Sky or whatever.
Nitpicking.
Its like that meme I saw somewhere here the other day of the helicopters coming in with the grammar police.
Same like when people say they got or bought wifi. We know its not the correct term and they should rather say they got internet or fiber or 5g, but hey most of us don't nitpick.

I think you're arguing around terminology. Although technically any IPtv offering is technically linear television programming with live pause/rewind and archived playback it's not used in SA to refer to that.

The increase is not justifiable, mind you its cheaper than DSkumbags... But I am looking to scale back on a few things and F1TV is 1 of them sadly...

I don’t think it’s used like that anywhere, to be honest.

Just google IPTV to see, virtually every hit on page one refers to dodgy IPTV rather than Netflix etc.
 
Jacques Villeneuve killed it during the Sky F1 show last night!

He basically asked why Riccardo was still in F1 as for the last 5yrs all we've heard is the car must be improved for him but what has he actually achieved himself?

I have never seen the other Sky pundits so shellshocked - they just stood there after he stopped talking and were motionless for a few seconds. Classic!

Jacques clearly calls a spade a shovel and he's not wrong.

50% chance of rain and Thunderstorms in Montreal this afternoon for Quali.
 
Tuned into F1TV for the Quali, at 9PM (BST) and couldn't work out why there was no Quali. Took me a while to work out why.
