Helmut Marko has revealed Red Bull and Max Verstappen have agreed he will not drive sim racing events so late at night in future, after a stint before the Hungarian Grand Prix that took him past 3am the night before the race.

The Red Bull senior advisor clarified Verstappen filled in for a driver that was unable to take part in a 24 Hours of Spa event, but that he and the team have now agreed he will not race so late at night before races in future.

normally I am keen for rain and changing conditions, it makes for interesting racing.

but not at spa.
lets just have a dry weekend so all the drivers for the weekend survive.
in case we loose another F2 driver. spa has claimed enough lives

That is a bit dramatic.

1 F2 driver has died there, 5-years ago, and the track has undergone safety-motivated changes since. Tragedy, yes, but lets not pretend that the track is a deathtrap.

Wouldn't be the first time for something like this happen, but it would be the most "quiet" instance of it. Usually the other teams make a massive stink of it - remember Ferrari? Everybody knew...
The one that comes to mind for me was Benneton. An outright DSQ for the season is a pretty hefty sanction, but fair.
Why should any team be allowed to break the rules? That said, there's always a lawyer to take their flimsy rulebook apart. The FIA are usually to blame lately.

Yes there was another death there last year in the rain

Aston Martin had an illegal aspect of their rear wing last year I think which was outlawed.

5 fatalities since 2000, 2 involving classic F3 cars (driven by amateurs) and a motorcyclist.

The bulk of Spa's deaths occurred when it truly was a deadly track in its original form and wound its way through public roads, lined by poles and houses.

So as I said, no need to be dramatic and the corner that spooks everyone (Raidillon - top of the hill) has undergone extensive changes to its runoff to improve safety.

Right, I was agreeing. Daytona and Indianapolis speedway are way up there with danger.

fine we lost an F2 driver in 2019
and a Formula Renault Regional Europe Driver last year. so F2 and effectively F4.

its still more than there should have been in those classes of Racing.
bla bla the risk blah blah they know what they get themselves into and all that. yes we know.
but there are safety measures in place to PREVENT this from happening. that is literally the entire point I am not saying I want risk free or even crash free racing, I am saying its 2024, we have the means to prevent deaths in racing, so lets do that.
