F1 drivers set for private talks over response to Verstappen swearing controversy

Drivers are pondering best response to FIA swearing clampdown after Verstappen sanction

I think drivers have to be allowed to express themselves authentically to some extent. Of course, it shouldn't be personally offensive, and it shouldn't be discriminatory either. They've all come a long way in that regard. So, for me personally, the penalty is too severe.”

I think the issue is that the president of the FIA has nothing to do with FOM and the specific penalty is stupid. Broadcasts have been beeping out profanity for years and the general response for eternity is the host apologising for the language and moving on.

I suspect that in passing Fernando, Carlos and Lewis, Charles had used the best of his tyres. You need a massive offset in tyre quality around that track to effect a pass and Charles didn't have it anymore.

Doesn't make it right though. Press conferences are public events. We all like a maverick on the track, but they really should be coached to treat press interviews as a professional sports people despite their over the top earnings.

Nowhere in the world in any sport is it acceptable to swear on live interviews. F1 is not special. They can swear all the want on their team radios. Its just common.
Makes me think of Ricciardo. Win a race and drink Champagne from his shoe. It was funny the first time, after that its just common. Worst is that is what people like him for, not his average race record. He only had a seat the last two years because of drinking out a dirty shoe.

even yesterday think it was magnussen who had a puncture..he made it back to the pits

lucky for max though there wasnt cos piastri would have chowed him

Max dropped the F bomb at the FIA Thursday media interview. They are not broadcast live. It was beeped out on F1TV once uploaded and on the Sky feed to DSTV.

Storm in a teacup.

The FIA are quite happy to have races broadcast where a competitor lost their life but the drivers may not use profanity when under extreme pressure. That is double standards by any measure.
Rate F1 as Adult Entertainment and start each broadcast with the "Viewer Discretion is Advised" warning.
If Parents allow their kids to watch it then they accept responsibility for what they may hear.
Censorship may be rife in the Middle East but not in the West, the FIA President needs to realise that.

yeah something is off

are the drivers so good

no safety cars at all in a while
Cars are better than ever despite all the whining that happens I think. No grooved tyres... these things are glued to the road... or perhaps just easier to keep on the road than in the past. Dunno.

No they're not public events. It's just media and drivers. No-one from the public heard it and it's really not that common that it warrants the FIA becoming the f-bomb police.

LMAO they are public events. They are live-streamed to millions of households. It’s a flipping sporting event. There’s nothing wrong with expecting it to fit into a family friendly slot.

Pre race press conferences aren’t broadcast live if I’m not mistaken?? There’s no public present during?

Edit: for clarity - it’s not a live public broadcast. They record, edit, package and make it available post embargo time?
