F1 2024

There was plenty good racing last week, just not for the lead. And I'm sure there'll be plenty this week again too.

The competition doesn't have to be for the win to be exciting.
This is true.

But ultimately the fight is for the championship, that's what we want to see. Think of 2021. That was a fantastic season because of how close it was at the front. Having one person consistently winning is one thing, but the gap is so large, it just takes some of the fun out of it.

I always hate it when people say it was a boring race because Max won again. Well did you watch the rest of the race, some battles are epic even if they are just for 4th or 8th. Also people tend to just watch the racing lap by lap, not understanding the strategy in the background or how things come together, which is fair if you are a casual viewer, but then don't complain about the quality of the racing if you just look at the final times
Max didn't even feature in the TV coverage for 95% of the race. The result for the win was predictable and boring, but everything else was good...

Thats always the funny part, even with DTS, they focus on the main characters and then some side character wins the championship.

I don't mind if they don't feature him being ahead all the time, I'm here to watch the racing. But I understand that I am not just a casual viewer, so I can understand that some don't want to understand every little aspect

Fair enough. a good race is not just a fight for 1st.

but point out the entertaining battles from last weeks race.

Carlos drove brilliantly.
Aston did a great job with pit strategy to get Stroll into the points.

GR getting to second was fun and then loosing it to everyone because they did not cool the car correctly.
Perez did a great recovery.

did I miss anything? maybe Danni Ric v Yuki drama? but if you think about it that was the only entertaining thing to happen after the first pit window.
it was a boring race, fact.

Last weeks race was not particularly interesting, but it was a good measure as the first race of the season to see where everyone is starting the season compared to where they were at the end of the last one. This season Williams might be even higher than last year of they can get Sargeant to go right some times, but Haas also seems to have figured out at least some of their tire issues. Alpine seems to be regretting their decisions with this years car/staff, so it would be interesting to see where they go from there

It was an interesting race, as first races usually are. It's all investigation and data finding and testing.

In terms of actual racing though, it was underwhelming.

This weekend should be better though.

Yeah this track lends itself to moments, so there might be some shakeups

With a safety car as pretty much a given at this track, expect there to be some shakeups in the order at some point.

Most races are underwhelming except for the odd incident. This was a bit above average IMO.

If you really want an interesting race, just add weather. That's why Spa and the Nürburgring should never have been removed in favour of these boring desert places...

Most races recently. Not most races. Not much happened this race.

But I'm keen on Jeddah, I think we could be in for some good racing (assuming the Merc engine overheating issues are resolved and Ferrari learn what brakes are). The walls are very close, so Stroll and Sargeant are going to yellow/red flag the race which could make pit strategy interesting.

I think this could be an interesting watch. Doriane Pin (Merc driver) got double poll. Not sure what the format is or why there are two qualis, but still. It's an additional racing format to watch.

There’s one quali session but the quickest laps for each driver determines the grid for race 1. Their second quickest laps in quali determine the grid for race 2. But suspect Pin will dominate. Her gaps for the quali were 0.7s and 0.6s a lap faster.

Thanks for the info. That's an interesting setup actually.
