That is almost an oxymoron, saying it is a boring race whilst congratulating a rookie driver on finishing his first race, in the points, ahead of the 7 time world champion having only driven the car in FP3.
There was nothing boring about that I think he had most of us on the edge of our seats cheering him on.
It was refreshing to have a new face doing well. As for the race result it was boring. Who wants to see the same guy winning every race by a country mile with no pressure? I am only half excited to watch guys scrap it out for 7th place.

I think that is going to be the story for the year, watching the race for 4th onwards.

This is the only reason why I watched until the end. Desperately wanted the new kid to do well.

I wont say it was an exciting race.
but I wont call it boring either.
there were on track battles. strategy calls. defensive driving from multiple people. good tire management and a few enticing sub plots.

that being said, are we simply justifying the money spent by finding entertainment lower down the order or was it legit entertaining?

It's been this way forever, barring the odd close championship here and there.

Racing is not just about the win...

I have been ignoring MAX for so long that I probably wouldn't notice if he only came second.
That said I do watch on a dual screen system so during most races I am busy doing stuff on the primary screen with the race in the background and if anything happens I watch the replay.

This one I had the race on the primary screen and watched it all, so yes, I would call it entertaining.

actually before the Shumi dominance era it was normal for races to be more entertaining and seasons to be closer and more competative for multiple teams.
and then Shumi came and dominated the way he did for 2000-2004.
then we had alonso dominating for 2 years
then it was a close season for 2007
close season for 2008
not that close in 2009 but it was entertaining.
domination in 2010 and 2011
Very close possibly the greatest season of all time in 2012
domination in 2013
domination in 2014-2020
Close in 2021
Domination in 2022
Domination in 2023

By all rights the domination should be ended by 2024 to lead to a competitive season again. (2007 and 2012 as an example)
even the 2014 to 2020 had a competitive year in 2016 that was entertaining. and 2018 had an entertaining start

2 years domination one year competitive. after the other teams catch up.
but it seems like we wont have that.

Did you ever complain when Usain Bolt was unbeaten for 4 years, or did you simply admire his excellence?

I admired his excellence but yes, it was boring seeing the same guy winning. Same with Schumie/Alonso/Vettel/Hamilton and now Max. Same with the Crusaders winning Superugby all the time. What is the point of watching sport if there is no competition for the top spot? How great was it not this weekend in the 6 nations to see Italy beating Scotland and England beating Ireland?

It is actually tied more to changes in Formula with the restricted testing and development in season.
He who gets it right dominates until the next design change, then it is a clean slate again.

2026 will be the big shakeup with Ferrari and MB being favorites to get the new Power unit right.
RB are changing supplier so it is a double jeopardy for them.

I tend to admire and accept the dominance of Max atm. Once you move on from that, there are so many other interesting little fun battles and things to watch during a race weekend. Quali, 3rd-6th positions. Seeing how Stroll will fck up another car. Listening to Yuki scream. Watching the life drain out of poor Gasly.

While close sports games are brilliant to watch I just as much enjoy watching displays of excellence, even extended displays. It takes unique skill and dedication for a single athlete or team to rise above the field and I have great appreciation for this. You might find it boring. I find it fascinating and inspiring.

Bearman did very well indeed. Wonder if he will race again this year?

I enjoy seeing whether Redbull or even Max alone will win all the races in the season, that would be a historical moment in the sport, but if I want excitement I watch the rest of the field and see how the development race unfolds, some teams really have some issues to sort out. The racing on track is just one aspect of Formula 1

Then you also get those who only realize it 10-15 years down the line. Then that team/athlete is labeled as the goat.

I think Singapore and Monaco could potentially be two races other teams are targeting, but for the rest of it, I can't see any team, unless there is mechanical issues, challenge Max atm.
