So how does penalizing him 3 places help when he was instructed by the team to bring it in?
Clearly a SC would have disadvantaged RB.
Because he never should have been instructed to bring the car back. RB should have factored in the potential danger of bringing back a demolished car.

The part in bold is exactly the issue. It would have disadvantaged them, but it was the right move. They decided not to because it would have disadvantaged them, thereby creating a potential safety issue for other drivers. They chose their own advantage over the safety of others, hence the penalty.

They did and the pros outweighed the cons for them. The team should have been penalised. Docked points, fined, etc.
They are being.

Checo is a driver, he goes to the driver safety briefings, he should have said no, that's dangerous. Hence the penalty.

Formula 1 set to rock the streets of Sandton in October: https://www.timeslive.co.za/motorin...et-to-rock-the-streets-of-sandton-in-october/

"... The savage roar of the Oracle Red Bull Racing RB7 Formula One car will echo through Katherine Street in Sandton, Johannesburg, in October when British F1 racing legend David Coulthard puts on an exhilarating Showrun.

Spectators will witness the power and sonic fury of the RB7 for the first time...."

"Aaaand it's lights out at Sandton City...!"

[AMuS podcast] Williams has reportedly offered Sainz a 4 year contract. If Vowles’ Williams project doesn’t work out as expected, Sainz has the option to leave after 2 years.
I hope he takes it.

Williams are a good team with a storied history that fell on bad times.
Now they are spending a lot of money and effort to pull themselves back up and they have the backing of MB.
With James Vowles as team principal and the Mercedes PU Sainz will be getting a good package and still be in with a shot, a better shot if he helps lift williams, for a future drive in the MB works team.

The team was also penalised.

Stewards' statement

“After making contact with the barriers in Turn 6, the driver continued on track for the remainder of the lap with a significantly damaged car and thereby lost several carbon fibre parts on the way back to the pits,” read a statement from the stewards.

“The team confirmed in the hearing that the driver had been advised to bring the car back to the pits as they were trying to avoid a Safety Car situation.

“The Stewards determine that, as well as a financial penalty for the team, a sporting penalty is necessary due to the safety implications of the incident.

“The penalty is imposed in line with precedents.”

No reason to think that Williams can't get themselves back up. They just need to look at a team like McLaren who went through years in the doldrums to see what can be achieved.

I hope it works out for them. Vowles seems to have a pretty good and logical plan to fix those foundations and he definitely made me like Williams a whole lot more. I'm sure Claire is a great person and I was never quite sure what Jost Capito's plan was, but maybe he just wasn't quite as vocal or public about it. Here's to hoping Sainz accepts.

Red Bull question the legality of Mercedes front wing: https://formu1a.uno/en/red-bull-investigate-the-legality-of-mercedes-front-wing/

"... As first revealed by Auto Motor und Sport, Red Bull are examining the front wings of their rivals. Formu1a.uno has gathered from reputable sources that the engineers at Milton Keynes, under the supervision of Paul Monaghan, are looking closely at the new Mercedes front wing.

This specification was first introduced on Russell’s car in Monaco. It was then brought to both cars in Canada, and to devastating effect. An unofficial request has been submitted to the FIA technical office to monitor the flexing at the W15’s front wing and nose. The Mercedes front wing has always been within legal limits during the FIA’s static checks.

However, teams are also able to activate flexing at certain load ranges during the lap. Listening to various insiders, the television images confirm that the front wing of the new specification W15 flexes more compared to the initial specification. This is an issue at Mercedes we have previously analysed. ...

HAS THE 2023 TD018 DIRECTIVE ALREADY BEEN BYPASSED BY THE TEAMS?
The theme of flexing has always been very present in these F1 technical regulations. In both 2022 and 2023, the FIA intervened and tweaked the technical regulations to mitigate the flexions of components such as the floor and spoilers. Last October, the FIA technical office officially implemented Technical Directive 18 to mitigate the use of overly flexible composite carcasses on the front wing structure. ...

The TD018 of 2023, which came into force through the political weight of some teams, greatly limited Aston Martin. Over the winter break, teams worked to reach pre-TD018 flexion levels while still complying with article 3.2.2 of the regulation – which limits flexions around the front wing.

“Observing the teams, we saw how they manage to create relative movements in the area of the nose attachment and in the external part near the lateral fins,” Nikolas Tombazis commented last year. “The teams invest a lot of resources to create surfaces that resist our load tests, but that appear to be made of elastic material on the track.”

With the fight at the front intensifying, teams are paying extra attention to the work of rivals. This scrutiny is to either copy or ask for clarification on potentially suspicious elements. ..."

The FIA being the FIA, as usual...

"Fun Fact: Per FIA's F1 Superlicence System;24 year-old Colton Herta who has 7 Wins,14 Podiums,12 Poles in Indycar (second best open-wheel racing series in the world) isn't qualified for F1; whereas 17 year-old Kimi Antonelli who has ''0'' Wins, Podiums or Poles in F2 or F3 could be qualified for F1."

"@AlexanderRossi Oh so exceptions can be made? Huh."

Imho the precedent for a 17yr old was already set. The point system is the problem.

MAX got his super licence when he was 17 and the FIA put it up to 18 after that.
No idea why if the Next time an 17 year old needs a license they just reduce it again.
I think FIA rules are available to the highest bidder..........

Might’ve had something more to do with the crashstappen years but as I said if they did it once it should have remained - the points are a separate thing. Imho f2 or f3 achievement should be the logical springboard/feeder into f1 rather than points. Finish top 3 in f2 or first in f3 or of similar nature makes more sense.

Wait what?
Did a 16 year old Max Verstappen not win 10 races in his rookie F3 season, including 6 in a row?

I think a few of the haters should go read his Wiki page and a few YouTube videos of this guys phenomenal achievements, even in his "Crashtappen" years.
Even in his "Crashtappen" years he achieved more than most drivers that is considered very good.

Motor racing has not seen the likes of a talent like Verstappen and now they trying to "create" another one. I feel sorry for the new "hype" they probably going to ruin his career.

Calm down. Crashstappen he earned. Most penalty points in 2015 season.

So what makes Antonelli special that he gets a seat again? Can someone remind me what he has achieved that, e.g. George Russell hasn’t?
Choice for seat is up to the team. Points and age for a super license is what qualifies him. I don’t have an issue with the age since precedent already exists. Points I feel are a flawed system especially for a non-euro driver like Herta.
