this season has been really really weird... when does a car / team dominate so much (first 10 races are like 90% RB wins) and then bang nothing in the next 10 races) this is odd to say the least.

If either Max or Lando crash out and have a DNF and the other does well then it's all over for either of them..

Could end up being a Schumi & Villenueve style last GP, frustrations build just like last week, it's natural.

Brazil, Lewis is always very good and so is Max... and it's raining! This will be epic, I don't see an RB engine change needed because of the wet race, they might save it for a dry race (just a thought as the engines aren't worked as hard and things are slower in the wet)

The problem for Max is that despite his phenomenal talent and ability to get the most out of his car, said car is now at best the third fastest on the grid. So on a good day, assuming he drives the wheels off the thing, he could have 3 cars between himself and Lando. That represents a 15 point swing. Granted, that would mean Norris winning and Max 5th and with a resurgent Ferrari, that isn't a given but it just goes to show the extent of the challenge he is up against.

A fast Ferrari could ultimately be his saviour if it keeps taking points off Norris and limiting the damage.
Max has to finish races with some points and that's basically the job done. If he has a DNF or gets wrapped up with another car in a major incident he'll be under enormous pressure.

Define enormous. I'd say he's under enormous pressure if he DNF's twice, and given there are only 4 races to go and he has DNFd 1/17 races this season, it's still unlikely.

Let's say he DNFs twice... Lando has to also win twice to get ahead. Sure it's possible, but all Max needs to do now is keep a cool head and finish races.

It smacks of external involvement in the car's design.

Max still has 23 odd points in the bag if Lando wins and he DNFs.

A wet race might be a good place for a grid drop penalty. More change of safety car place reshuffling.

Nope the one never needed patch work. Both started with the same.
Yes, they both started with the same.
If you and your friend both buy a Tata the same day and your friend drives the shyte out of his and mess it up, you still both have the same car.
Pretty sure that if I take a broken Tata to Tata they will replace the components not patch them up even if I'm getting it done for the third time...

Imho enormous pressure is going into any race with less than a 25pt lead to your closest competitor following a bad race.

All Max is doing is trying to ensure the Ferraris finish ahead of Lando and he finishes as close to Lando as possible. Seems fairly doable for most drivers, let alone a 2x WC in a RB.

I think the problem they're having is catering budget. They can only cater so much and Perez has been eating like a monster this season so it's cut into that. I think that's why they're fixing and not replacing every time.

I think it was clear even before the last race that Ferrari have the better race endurance and would probably win and yet Max still was overly aggressive so that would be at odds with what you're saying. it's going to be interesting to see if he hangs back just for the points - my gut feeling is that he doesn't.

I am going to agree with you there on the basis that I do not want a pommy to win the season
agreed.

on a similar issue - does anyone know when martin "bungle" is on leave. cant he just sit out a few gps and keep his bias to himself.

according to him, perez has a "few meters" head-start.
if that were a brit, he would've probably said an inch or two.

One of the reasons for F1TV so that I don't have to listen to the biased commentary.

I think his comment was in reference to Perez getting 'just' a 5 second penalty. Which means that as a driver, you could start a few meters past your grid slot if you were at the front, romp off into the distance and only incur a 5 second penalty. Although, I gathered from his tone when he said that it was mostly in jest. But his point remained.

I'd have to listen to what he said again though but without the benefit of my F1 subscription anymore, I can't.

.

Still doesn't change the argument that Max is unlikely to stay out of it for the sake of the points.
It depends on his goal and the position he is in to achieve it - at the past two races, it cost Lando - mission accomplished.
